Swim
Comments: The swim was cancelled. I guess there was a good reason, but the only thing I can come up with is the terribly ironic, "it was raining too hard and, therefore, was too wet to swim." Final dash time: 22.25s (32/45) Transition 1
Comments: As it played out today, this was the run to bike transition. I came in, put my helmet on and clipped it first thing so I wouldn't forget. Then I pulled off the running shoes and put on the bike shoes. Grabbed the bike and I was gone. Bike
Comments: Wet. Good bike...my hammy was getting a little tight. I hope that resoves itself sooner rather than later. Had I had to run after, it might have caused more problems. The objective on the bike was to (1) finish and (2) finish with equipment and body intact and upright, ready to race next weekend...mission accomplished! Transition 2
Comments: Well...this would be bike to run for the final 200M today. I brought the bike into the dismount area and dismounted. Then I jogged to my space, racked the bike, popped my shoes and helmet off, and then headed to the finish in my soaking wet socks. What would you do differently?: Drop the socks...more cool points Run
Comments: I did a good job of keeping it steady and strong. I didn't go out too fast and must have been able to keep the pace pretty steady. After about a half mile, a lot of dudes started coming back to me in 1s and 2s, so I'm guessing my pace was steady throughout the run. I didn't drink or eat anything during the run. I was concerned prior to the race that I would be too cold with just my tri-shorts and singlet, but it was perfect once I got rolling. What would you do differently?: I probably could have pushed a little faster, but that wasn't my plan. I haven't been doing any training for speed. I just wanted to go nice and steady, which I think was the right thing to do. Post race
Warm down: Pick up my gear from the transition area...head to McDonalds for a sausage McMuffin with egg...to Starbucks for a Venti coffee. Event comments: This was a well organized event. It was really unfortunate that the weather stank. It didn't really affect the challenge of the race (everybody dealt with the same weather), but it forced them to cut out the swim. I also think a lot of people didn't race...slackers...too good for a little rain are ya?...regardless, I had a good time. It was a good shakeout for my packing plan and race prep. Now we can do it again next weekend! The awards party was great! Free BBQ (really good BBQ)...Free beer (they had my 2 favorite kinds, "COLD" and "FREE"!!! And free pizza from Pizza Hut Bottom line, despite the sucky weather, I enjoyed the race, got a good challenge, and enjoyed myself. Last updated: 2007-05-19 12:00 AM

Got up a 0500. Had 2 packets of instant oatmeal and headed out. I got to the race location at 0600, just as the transition area was opening up. I didn't know how crowded it would be. Turns out, there wasn't very many people there yet. However, about 30 or 45 minutes later there was a pretty long line for the bike inspection and marking to get into transition. After setting up the transition, I just chilled out. Had a banana and about 45 minutes before the race started I had a sports bar. That was perfect! I wasn't hungry, I had plenty of energy, but it wasn't heavy in my stomach.
BTW...Yesterday I had 2 eggs and potatos for breakfast. Then I ate a grilled chicken and greek salad at Applebees for lunch. For dinner I had a foot long Subway BMT on white with a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos and a Red Hook IPA...Then to bed.
Mostly, I hid in the truck from the rain. However, I ded a few laps around the parking lot and a very minor amount of stretching. I certainly wasn't "warmed up," but there wasn't a lot of warmth to be had this morning until you got started with the race.
It would have helped dramatically during the warmup if I would have brought my rainshell along. It took about 2 minutes to completely soak a T-shirt this morning.
