Pre-race routine:

Usual breakfast at 3:30am. My wife dropped me off at approx. 4:30am. Sipped water until swim at 7:19am. Anti-Fatigue Caps 1hr prior. Three gels 10min prior.

Hung-out and talked with fellow athletes.
Event warmup:

Just stretched a little. No real warm-up. Felt prepared, and was redy to go!!

This was a solid swim for me. I surprised myself! It gave me a confidence boost, and was the start I needed.

Nice long run to T-1, which I liked.

Comments:

Hillier than what I was expecting. But I drove the course two days prior, so I was prepared. Living in PA, I'm used to hills.
What would you do differently?:

Gone a little faster.
Transition 2
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

I used the porta-pottie in T2, which cost me a minute. But when you gotta go...

Run
  • 2h 04m 21s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

For some reason, I felt sick in my stomach, so I didn't fuel or hydrate properly. This comes back to haunt me!!
What would you do differently?:

Drink and take my gels!!

I'm usually strong on the run, but not today. I should have averaged, at most, 8:30min/mi.
Post race
Warm down:

Met my family. Walked alone to the Medical tent, and proceeded to cramp up all over and almost passed out. Refusing to have an IV injected in me, they gave me Gatorade and massages for over an hour. Finally, they allowed me to leave, and I hobbled away - barely able to move!!

Ate some pizza, then somehow managed to slowly ride back to the parking lot to meet my family. We went to a Mexican place, and I proceeded to pig out big time!! Went back to our place and soaked in the hot tub.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hydration/fuel on the run.

Event comments:

The volunteers and Medical tent personnel were awesome. Knowing how demanding and difficult Disney can be, this is a great race put on by a great RD.

Will definitely do again next year - May 18th, 2008!!
