Swim
Comments: I started way far to the left which was still a straight shot to the yellow corner buoy because they hadn't lined the orange ones up in a straight line and most of the pack was lined up with the first orange buoy. Nevertheless, before I reached the first turn I'd crossed to the left side of the last orange buoy. these extra meters didn't seem to hurt me too bad because I was able to catch the wave of swimmers ahead of our wave by the first buoy. I was able to navigate through that pack without any major problems, just a little bumping. What would you do differently?: Slight more often and swim straighter. Transition 1
Comments: Nothing eventful in this transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I did what I planned to do, which was go easy, but I think that plan was a little too conservative. I could have and should have gone harder. The last race I ran I was ranked 1 in my AG on the bike and so to rank 10 shows that the others were going harder than me. There were several issues that came up on the bike: 1) I lost my solid food within the first quarter mile 2) my seat was loose and by the end of the bike was slanted way down from me riding on the nose in the aerobars. What would you do differently?: Go harder and check my bike over much more carefully. Transition 2
Comments: This was the first time I saw my family and my son wanted to show me the signs they'd made for me so I carried on a conversation with him as I was transitioning. I didn't mind at all; they did a great job on the signs. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: The course didn't really fit with my plan exactly which was to run the first 3 miles easy, then 6 hard, then 3 tempo, the 1 super hard. Since the outbound part of the loop was climbs, I ran 3 easy, 3 hard, 6 tempo (with some walking at aid stations) then the last one hard. Legs cramps were somewhat of a limiter. What would you do differently?: Learn to run faster for longer periods of time. Become more flexible so I don't cramp as much ?? Post race
Warm down: Shower tent, drank some fluids, hung out with family and friends and ate some food. What limited your ability to perform faster: My running has limited my performance not only in this race but in most of my races this year. I need to focus on running during the off-season. Event comments: I pleased with the results since this was my first 70.3 and think I can beat 5 hrs next year. It was a great day. This ismy favorite distance so far! Last updated: 2007-05-27 12:00 AM

My friend CarolinaLaw walked over to my tent and woke me up at 5:30. I laid in the bed for a few minutes then got up, ate some cereal, drank some water, got a shower, finished putting my transition stuff in my backpack and rode my bike in the dark to the transition area. Once there I setup my transition area, got body-marked, picked up my chip, and put on my wetsuit. I hung out for a few minutes and talked with some friends then walked the trail to the swim start.
I swam almost to the first orange bouy and back to get warmed up. The first 200 meters of the swim are usually the hardest (shallow breathing, high hr), so I like to have time to swim though that feeling as a warmup before the actual swim start.
