Swim
Comments: Really had a terrible time breathing. The wet suit felt much tighter than last year and after just a few minutes I had to turn on my back to catch my breath. Got off course and then had to struggle to get back on track. Let my legs drag for a fair amount of the route to try to keep my breathing down. Swim last year was 29.39 What would you do differently?: Not sure...will try on my wet suit before the race and assess whether the tightness is worth the warmth. Transition 1
Comments: Really took it easy on the transitions (last year 3:36) Was convinced I wasn't ready for this race and just wanted to finish upright so didn't rush. Took two puffs of the inhailer before heading out on the bike Bike
Comments: Had a really bad cramp in my right thigh for the first 10 miles...kept on riding hoping it would work its way out and it finally did. I didn't push it but I didn't lay back either...was a good ride. Knee didn't hurt on the ride but did it ever afterwards! What would you do differently?: Train more before the race Transition 2
Comments: Again, took my time (last year 2:51) Two puffs off of inhailer again. Run
Comments: Learned 5 things on this race Cliff Shots are Great! I don't run hills and my heart stays under control! Walking the hills is not a cool down, it is a power walk! Emotion triggers Asthma! Shoot! What is number 5?!?!? All that and I took 11 minutes off of my time from last year!!! (1:26:11) Now if I actually train for the run I could be even better! What would you do differently?: Not much, it was a good run! Post race
Warm down: Came across the levy and heard my team cheering for me, started to tear up and triggered an instant asthma attack! Hadn't had any trouble breathing before that! Stop myself from crying, breathing got better...hit the finish line and Audrey hugged me and I started crying again and my breath stopped! Must not get emotional anymore! Took two more puffs and for almost a week after the race my lungs hurt! don't know if it was from the attack or the medication. Also! The ride home (6 hours of driving) was h-ll!! My knee was really bad. Iced it while driving but still got really stiff. It is from the bike, NOT the run...explain that! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training! Event comments: Love Memphis! Its a great race!! Do it!!! Last updated: 2007-05-28 12:00 AM
