Swim
Comments: I was at the beginning of those that were not seeded because of late registration. Most of the swimmers in the pool when I started were slow or not strong swimmers. I know that I am solidly middle of the pack, but it was a real confidence boost to have a fairly strong swim. I think I passed at least one person per lap. Most everyone knew their capabilities and got out of the way when I came up on them. I appreciated the courtesy. What would you do differently?: Sign up early so I could start sooner. Transition 1
Comments: From the pool to the t1 mat is up the stairs, down a hall way, across a parking lot for about 100 feet, down another set of stairs to the timing mat. Easy to add a couple of minutes or more to the swim, but it allows the drying process to start. Struggled a little with the socks, but not bad. Got the shoes on and ran to the mount line. What would you do differently?: Maybe learn to go without socks. Bike
Comments: Most of the bike course was either going up or down the hills. Nothing I haven't seen before as where I live thats pretty common. Settled into a nice rythm early on and felt pretty strong. Passed a fair number of folks on mountain bikes. I got passed by a couple of guys and one girl that both by their bikes and their technique I could tell they had done this before. I knew I needed to get in some water and gatorade during the early part of the ride as it had been a while since breakfast and I didn't want to crash during the run. I didn't really do as good at this as I had wanted. Getting the bottles in and out of the cages while climbing or going down hill was slowing me down more than I wanted. I should have done a better job of taking the time, but I didn't. Other than that, I was pleased with the ride. What would you do differently?: Just more time riding! Transition 2
Comments: In and out pretty good. Helmet off, hat on. Shoes off, running shoes on. What would you do differently?: Can't think of anything. Run
Comments: Took off out of transition and could tell right away that the legs weren't moving as quickly as I would have liked. It had been overcast and fairly comfortable out on the bike, but as soon as I hit the road running the sun came out and the temp increased. There were no major hills on the run, but gradual up and down hills. Dumped some water over my head at both the water stops and that seemed to help. Couldn't get the legs moving the whole way. Just felt heavy. I did run the whole thing and didn't give in to the negative thoughts, What would you do differently?: I think there were 3 major factors in the run. First, I probably shouldn't have run on Saturday, second, I didn't get as much hydration and nutrition on the bike, third, I haven't done many bricks off the bike. Post race
Warm down: I walked around taking in the moment. Although it was only a sprint, it was still my first and it was/is special. Packed up the gear and put it all in the car. Found the food line and enjoyed some pizza and gatorade. Chatted with the other BT folks there (Kam32, jackjack, and Ridgelake). Decided not to wait for the awards as it was going to be another hour or so. Connie was home finishing up the landscaping so I went home and joined her. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably the biggest limiting factor was experience. Having never done a tri before, I didn't really know what to expect. Although I am probably in better shape than the average American, this was a fairly humbling experience. But I can say this with a lot of confidence and certainty: I AM HOOKED! Event comments: I felt the race was fairly well organized. I know they had a fairly large number of last minute entries (including me) and they handled it well. Last updated: 2007-06-02 12:00 AM

Packed transition bag and loaded the bike in the car Saturday night. Woke up about 5:00, had a light breakfast and headed to Pittsford. Its about a 45 minute ride.
Found a slot to set up transition, dropped off the bike and gear. Headed over to pick up the chip and get marked.
Unfortunately the sign in ended at 7:00, but this was a pool swim with a staggered start. I didn't sign up until yesterday so I was 240th to start. This put my start time at 8:59:30. So I watched the first group come out of the pool and take off on the bike. Chatted with some of the other late starters and relaxed a bit.
Once it was time to get in the pool, we staged in the diving part so I swam a couple of short laps to warm up a bit.
