Swim
Comments: Well, when you practice less than once a week, you are not going to impress too many. This really was pretty uneventfull. I was able to navigate ok and was pretty good at identifing and going around slower swimmers without incident. I tend to try to stay away from the mix and swim my own thing. I was not really very tired but could not have gone any faster. I just sorta floated around for a half hour. What would you do differently?: Get in more practices. The lack of power was obvious to me. Transition 1
Comments: OK this is where some of my troubles on the race started. When exiting the water, I could not get my wetsuit zipper down. I yanked and yanked but I could only get it down about 3 inches. I had to ask a specator to help me. Two guys were like "wow, this really is stuck". "what the hell did you do". Not sure the time loss but 30 sec to 1 min? I didn't really jump on my bike, just sort of got on but the shoes on the bike really work. I had EVERYTHING on the bike. Just clip on helmet and go. What would you do differently?: Shorten my wetsuit. I'm sick of getting stuck on the ankles. Bike
Comments: Equipment wise and racing wise everyting went fine. I ate 3 gels out there, and 2L of gatoraid. The new wheels work great at higher speeds. Even the cross winds did not freak me out too much. What would you do differently?: How about actually getting on the bike and training? You can't fake your way into a fast time. I just did not have the legs. I would bet my HR was less than 140. I was chatting up with everyone out there, while working as hard as I could. I just could not push any harder. This is truely disappointing. TIME IN THE SADDLE! Transition 2
Comments: My transition trouble. When I was dismounting the bike I jumped off to run barefoot and my left shoe came off the bike. OK grab the shoe, run throught the maze of sprinters and then down a short steep grassy hill (soaked from rain and pounding). Then, mike bike came loose from my hand and fell down. Nice. Pick it up rack (using front handlebars, worked really well). Slam on shoes, put on belt while running and start sucking on a gel. The best I see on the list is a :54 so to me a 1:13 is pretty good considering. What would you do differently?: Tighten (if possible) my shoe clips. Run
Comments: I never really felt strong. I'm surprised that I was able to go this fast. I thought my time would me more in the 8:00 min mile range. I actually slowed down to help a guy change his stride to relieve an obvious calf strain. He was bounding too much. Ran next to him and showed him my downhill technique. He said it made him feel better. It took 3 miles to finally feel ok. I did not have much of a kick left. What would you do differently?: With a stonger bike leg, this would have been easier. I just need to do what I'm capabile of. Post race
Warm down: Stagger about looking for food. What limited your ability to perform faster: How about actually training. Event comments: The talk was too long. I wish they would seperate the sprint and oly a bit more. Lots of traffic. Last updated: 2007-06-03 12:00 AM

Up at 5:30. Ate a light bowl of cereal. Drank some GuH20 and off with my neighbor at 6:00. Little bit of a stomach issue.
Arrive and parked at regrestration by 7:30. Got my stuff set up, had to force my way into a rack. (really people, do you think I'm going to give your wetsuit a spot on the rack). 8:00 was the prerace. Stupid as usual. I forgot my goggles so I had to fight my way back to get them so I could eventually get a swim in. About 8:30 did a 15 min swim. Ran back up and slammed a gel then off.
