Swim
Comments: Off course after the initial buoy. Mistook a marker for one of the actual markers. Transition 1
Comments: Still putting on socks as they're needed for the run anyway. Bought new running shoes and tried them out for the first time two days prior and ended up with sores on my right heel. Shoes are seamless, but ended up with sores nonetheless. What would you do differently?: Break in shoes prior to race. Bike
What would you do differently?: Practice shifting as too much stress was being applied to the chain/sprocket while climbing hills. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Best run I've had. Ever. Yet I ranked 242. Yuck! What would you do differently?: Train harder for the run. I mainly train distance vs speed on a short course. Even distance training is kept only to 6 miles. Usually run 9-10 minute miles. Definitely need to step it up here. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: First year of training for a tri. Event comments: I'm a little surprised that this was such a popular race. Touted as the 2nd largest tri in Minnesota. Sponsored by Gatorade. Only the Lifetime Fitness tri is more popular. 1200 registered for either the Sprint or the Olympic. My first tri this year was in Albert Lea, which was better for the fist timer as they were very helful with pre-race pointers and much more sociable. I experienced a not so nice gentleman at the Buffalo tri, believe he was the go-to guy for volunteers, who thought it wise to make a newbie feel like a newbie. A real ass.
