Swim
Comments: Well, I got lost with many other swimmers because of the sun but once past the first bouy, my navigation was right on and I was able to take more strokes before sighting. I would have taken even more but I was a little gun shy from being so far L of the first turn bouy. Reading the other race reports you can tell it was a common theme. I had to foolw the crowd because I could not see past them anyway. I wanted to be faster but considering the navigation SNAFU and run up the beach I actually feel goood about the slow swim time. What would you do differently?: Start R of the L hand turn bouy Transition 1
Comments: Not a bad transition, no socks. Looking at all the people who beat me, my transition time was good. Bike
Comments: Some things were good, never red-lined but I don't think my legs could have pushed harder and still run 6 miles afterward. This was a race to test the distance and the ride distance was not a factor. I ride the hills great but can't keep the speed on the flats. Able to talk to riders while riding. Transition 2
Comments: Had to stop to put on shoes. About 20miles is the max I can ride without socks, as I learned during the ride. I also had to tie my shoes as I left my usual race shoes with Yankz at home. What would you do differently?: Differnt shoes. Run
Comments: Several times I wanted to stop running but overall it was a good run. I have not raced a 10K in years although I've had some runs of this length or longer this Spring. My knees made it! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Cooled off in water tent. After driving home I self massaged my legs and feel pretty good today. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just not strong enough on the bike, it's not the lungs, its the legs. I also need to do more swim speed work. This was a practice race for this distance so I'm glad I did not push too hard. I want to really push it at Greenville. Event comments: I'll do it again next year. Other then the swim directly into the rising sun, the lake is a great swim and the full distance cannot be seen from shore so it is less intimidating. Well marked, roads a little rough for long stretches. Nice rolling bike ride, no serious hills. I liked the lay out of the run because mile ~3.5 to 5 is a rolling straightaway and you can see the turn for the last mile into the park where it's mostly downhill and shaded.
