Overall Rank = 176/395
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 3/17
Pre-race routine:

Got to Guelph at 7:30. As I've said before, like to get there early to enjoy the atmosphere, take my time and not be rushed. Up at 5:00, eat pancakes at 6:00, then quinoa at 8:00 at the site. Took a Cliff shot block gel pack 15 minutes before swim.
Event warmup:

Did 30 minutes of yoga, chi body sensing at home; 10 minutes of Core Performance Movement Prep before getting into water for swim warm up. Like to swim 10-15 minutes and get heart rate up so it's not so shocked once the race starts.
Swim
  • 12m 26s
  • 375 meters
  • 03m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt really good in the water. Not nervous. Passing people, and felt strongest for the last 150 meters. Swam right into shore so when I stood water was just below knees. Able to jump out of water and felt good running up hill.
What would you do differently?:

Now that I am feeling comfortable bumping into people and moving them out of my way and enjoying the swim, I am going to pick up the pace and get out of my comfort zone.
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Once I got through the 1st timer, there were a couple of 51 years olds ahead of me, just walking, so I started walking. Then another 51 year old passed me, and I started to pick up the pace. Transition went well and was smooth enough, but did take longer than my normal 1'20".
What would you do differently?:

Move a little faster in transition. And, need to practice jumping on bike at mount. Used elastics on shoes for 1st time the night before. Worked well, but could get smoother and faster with practice
Bike
  • 21m 15s
  • 10 kms
  • 28.24 km/hr
Comments:

I LOVE the bike. I did work very hard to keep the average speed up because once the transition times are added in it looks so depressing. Hadn't been doing much hill training so far this year, so was happy with the results.
What would you do differently?:

Can't think of too much really, except drink during ride. Usually I do, but didn't this race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Felt really good jumping off moving bike. Transition was slower than normal. Think it's just the course.
What would you do differently?:

Can't think of much.
Run
  • 15m 38s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 06m 15s  min/km
Comments:

Felt very good about results considering I walked 4 times. Didn't think I'd have a chance in heck of doing a decent run after pushing hard on bike, but my time to the 1st run TAT was the same as in training, and only 5 seconds slower at 1.5km. My breathing was bad though, really heaving. Able to finish strong though, coming through the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Push myself harder to catch people in my age group. On the run, it seems if someone passes me, I have a tendency to think "I can't catch them".
Post race
Warm down:

Some core performance stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Amount of training put in so far. Off for 1 year due to injury and started training again in April and have been taking it very slow and VERY cautious. With 2 races completed and feeling strong, can up the training hours and intensity for the next races.

Event comments:

I have done one HSBC and one Subaru. Like the fact that HSBC breaks out transitions for try-a-tri and they also seem to give better award prizes and much better draw prizes.
