Swim
Comments: I have no idea why I couldn't swim. I mean, I was swimming, but I just wasn't covering any ground. I was hoping for sub-20 minutes, and really didn't think I'd have any trouble achieving that. Wrong. What would you do differently?: Swim more. Swim longer. Swim faster. Swim more. Transition 1
Comments: OK, about what I expected. A little quicker than T1 last month. Bike
Comments: I struggled up the hill leaving T1 and never really felt good again. For some reason I don't ride that much or that often, and today I paid the price for it. Both calves cramped during the ride, especially the right one. But they felt OK after some stretching. I really need to devote more time to riding. A lot more time. What would you do differently?: Bike more. Bike longer. Bike faster. Bike more. Transition 2
Comments: OK. Tied my shoes and lumbered on out. Run
Comments: I was hoping for a sub-30 minute run. But it took me about 2 miles just to feel like I wasn't dying. At the finish line I felt about as exhausted as I ever have. What would you do differently?: Run more. Run longer. Run faster. Run more. Post race
Warm down: Wandered around with that cold towel on my neck. Drank some water. Found my wife and kids, went home. When you finish as far back as I did, the event is mostly over when you finish. Time to go home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heart. Lungs. Determination. Willingness to push myself. Lack of training volume. Event comments: Great park, great roadway for the bike, a little crowded on the run trail (mostly people running in while I was "running" out). I want to come back and give it a go again next year. I have to work on my bike skills, and now have a goal and a year to get ready. Last updated: 2007-06-18 12:00 AM

Wife and kids wanted to come, the kids were actually excited about it, so we all loaded into the car around 5am and headed for the park. Just under an hour drive, got there right around 6am and I setup my transition area.
None, walked around. Watched the start of the Olympic race and then the first waves of the sprint too. Got stung by bees to get the adrenaline pumping just before the swim start.
