Comments:

This run was down at the Naval base, as the name Fleet week would suggest. It was a perfect day for running, great temps and clear skies. Going into this race I realized once again that I had not put in the miles and time that I needed to. So I kinda was shooting for 2:15 ish. We took off, I was running with my Wife and we had decided we would stay together. Well the crowd was thick for the first mile or two so we picked up the pace a little to find some clear road and settled in on a pace. I had to hit a port a john for a second about 5 miles into it. It was nice that they had restroom ahead signs. I told Jill when I saw the sign to slow down and I speed up to use the john. There was some guy in one of them losing his lunch and it sounded painful, anyway I caught back up to Jill and off we went. She was feeling much better than I. I told her several times to just go on, but she would not. Around mile 10 we got passed by the 2:07 pace group and she turned to me and said you can do better than a 2:07, so we got ack in front and I held on with her at this point for about a half mile and I was fading. She kept on pace and I feel back. I think when she looked back for me I was all ready a little behind and she kept going. After mile 11, we came up and made a left turn, I could see my wife up ahead making the tuen and thought, Wow I will never hear the end of this (her beating me). So I knew I was beat but I wanted to still go under 2:10 so I just kept on it, as you make the last tuen I was coming down the road and kept on some folks that where walking, we only had a couple of blocks to go, and I hate it when people walk with that little distance left. I got 3-4 people to start running again and run across the line. I finished in 2:07:28.
Jill finished in 2:05:14

My first 5 mile split time was 46:58.15 with a pace of 9:24 per mile, my second 5 mile split time was 48:53.20 with a pace of 9:47 per mile, my last 5K split was 31:44.45 with a pace of 10:14 per mile.

What would you do differently?:

Well train more before the race and not let my wife beat me.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, Krispy Kreme, Subway and popcorn.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being slow.

Event comments:

A great event. Well run, plenty of water stops and 2 gels stops along the course. This was a flat course that would be great for a shot a PR. Great post race activites, plenty of food and hey any race with Krispy Kreme doughnuts is OK in my book. They had doughnuts, cottton candy popcorn, fruit, Subway, bagels, and plenty to drink to include water, Powerade, beer and I am sure several other things I missed. We stayed for the awards after which they gave away 2 life cycles, which we did not win, but had a GREAT day. We will do this race next year.
