Pre-race routine:

I had my yogurt and coffee for breakfast, along with a bananna. We checked out of the Rose Loe motel (clean and servicable, but nothing to write home about). Howeverm the convenience store/deli right up the road has an amazing selection of Belgian beer.....Belgian beer in the hinterlands of Virginia....How cool!!!
It was actually a little chilly and I paced about wishng I had brought a long-sleeved shirt. I got marked and chipped and set up my TA. The site is really compactly laid-out and convenient to set up. The lake water was a little warmer than the air early on, and it was pretty cool to watch the little whisps of steam rise up off the lake.
Event warmup:

I got to chat a bit with a few folks I know from other races, including a guy who is moving from MTB racing to tris. I got suited up and paddled around in the lake a bit.

This was the most crowded, washing machine, rugby scrum swim start I have ever been in. I was in a big wave, and it looks like I did not position myself very well. I was running into people until well after the first bouy. This slowed me down a good bit.
Suit: full wetsuit
Course: Rectangular course with one leg going right strainght into the sun. I mistook a bright yellow kayak for the corner bouy and swam a pretty crooked line for that leg.It was not my best swim ever by a long shot
