Swim
Comments: To go from dead last at my first OWS clinic 3 months ago to passing people in the wave in front of me; and by the last turn, passing people from the wave in front of that -- very exciting! I was calm at the start. I really enjoyed this swim. Only got kicked once and bumped a few times. This time I was in the mix, so it was to be expected. I swam into a few people because they would change their speed; but I did that a few times too. Found myself breathing on the left side mainly the first half because there were so many people around me. If I did bilateral breathing, I was getting splashed alot and water in my mouth as I was trying to breath. It worked better to protect one side (stay far enough to the side of people) and breath on that side. By the last turn, I switched to the right side. You pull a lot to get your head out of the water when its choppy, so my arm was getting tired. What would you do differently?: Nada. Keep practicing. Maybe get coaching next year. Keep building speed and bigger distances. Transition 1
Comments: I came out of the water out of breath. As I put my shoes on, I worried about catching my breath before hitting the hill out of T1. By the time I got on my bike and started pedaling, I realized my heart rate had already recovered. Another good sign of fitness improvement! What would you do differently?: Nada. Bike
Comments: I pushed it a bit more than my first race. With the hills, I knew it would hurt to get off the bike and run -- so I tried not to go too crazy and burn out my legs. What would you do differently?: Train more for speed. I started doing that a few weeks before this race -- I would just do more of that. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Try harder to make this transition as quick as the first. Run
Comments: Uh. This is the part that needs the most work. It felt like 10 miles! What would you do differently?: Next season will include some run coaching. Carry some HEED with me. Post race
Warm down: Walked around talking to people; enjoying the beautiful park! I helped my brother and our friend J get ready for this, their first race, and by the end, I felt like a triathlete. Wow. Event comments: This was the race of my dreams! It all turned out as I had hoped for me and my brother. Goals: Pass a few people in the swim; Pass a few people on the hills on the bike. Both accomplished. A bonus goal was to try to make it under 2 hours and I did. Very pleased! Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the awesome event organizer PERSONALLY put an ice-water soaked towel around my neck at the finish! (I wondered if I looked THAT pathetic that he felt the need to help me himself...hmmm? ;-) Last updated: 2007-06-26 12:00 AM

Picked up my brother, John, at 5:45. Traffic was backed up in the park. Scrambled to get Johns tire issue resolved. Dad, mom, Nicole, Carl, Dave and Mandy all came to cheer us on.
I ate my usual - veggie links and wheat toast. Drank HAMMER shake up until the start.
Just running around trying to get it together.
