Swim
Comments: After debacle at Indian Springs - out too fast/heartrate skyhigh/cooked before race even started - my game plan was to go easy until the first buoy 150 meters out. Worked perfectly - Not a fast swim but I was set up just right for the rest of the race. What would you do differently?: I would go a touch harder and see if the fitness level would bear a little more stress. Transition 1
Comments: Fifth fastest in AG - I have this 'shoes clipped in' thing down, almost. My right shoe came unclipped just as I put my foot through the hole. Managed to keep the thing from falling on the ground while I worked on getting my other foot in. Could have been ugly. Bike
Comments: I do ok on hills so this course was about right for me. I passed tons of folks from other AG's but only one guy from my own. I haven't spent a lot of time on my tri bike lately but found a good cadence early on and just kind of went with it. One guy from my AG passed me but he was wearing an Aero Helmet so doesn't really count. What would you do differently?: I got stuck behind a car who would not go around slower riders in front of her. It was exactly like being blocked - Next time I'm bringing a marine grade air horn. Transition 2
Comments: Way too slow. I missed my rack's row and had do a partial extra loop to get to my spot. This isn't the first time I've done this. Too much fumbling around in general. Run
Comments: I felt ok out of T2 and kept a steady pace the whole way through. The legs felt ok so I focused on catching a couple of racers who left transition with me. I guess my time was about where it should have been but I'd really like to try and step this part of the race up just a bit. My stand alone 5k PR is 21'50" or so but I just have this crazy idea that I am faster than that. What would you do differently?: Not live in a part of the country where the summer is so hot that speed work is a life threatening proposition. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water and watched other racers coming in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim - OK Bike - OK Run - Meh. . Work on it. Event comments: I look at these sprints as being for fun; Just a fitness test in anticipation of the 'A' race at the end of the year. From that perspective, I really had a good time. For a local series, I think the TriBlueSky folks do a really good job. I am considering doing enough of these to participate in the points race next year. Last updated: 2007-07-07 12:00 AM
