Age Group Rank = 5/24
Pre-race routine:

None: up @ 5:15 (actually up 1/2 the night with the baby), out of house by 5:45, picked up packet and setup transition and on the beach w/ 15 minutes extra.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 12m 49s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim leg, got a nice start and slot and found a relay swimmer to grab a draft off of. I hardly had to sight at all and followed him until the last 50 yard when he sprinted off (since he was done). HR was low and I could have easily pushed much harder.
What would you do differently?:

Find someone even faster to draft off of and push a top 5 swim split!!
Transition 1
  • 04m 25s
Comments:

The transition area was way too cramped and I was on the end of the rack and the same rack as relay bikers who were all standing in the way as I came in.. get the f out of the way... Then I find some jacka#$ had leaned his duffle wag and trainer against my bike and i had to move his crap out of my way to even get out. First time of wearing my tri top under my wetsuit, which worked well given the heat.
What would you do differently?:

Punch people...
Bike
  • 40m 56s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Dropped my chain 4 times in 12 miles, that has to be some kind of record. Guess that's what I get for not riding my tri-bike since CDA. Coupled with that, I had no energy on the bike and couldn't get confortable. I think this is where the sleep deprivation kicked in, becasuse I was seriously tired and bored, didn't care if people passed me and if I was passing anyone. It didn't help my speed was working so I had no feeback for motivation.
What would you do differently?:

Get motivated to go fast.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Once again f'n relay runners were in the way, including a biker literally lying across the aile I needed to bring my bike down..move bastards...
What would you do differently?:

kick people
Run
  • 28m 46s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

After having such a boring and uninspired bike, I figuered i'd jog this thing out. Found another clydesdale and we ran the whole thing together with some 10 sec walk breaks. Easily could have done more, but oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Run continuously.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sleep

Event comments:

The race started 25 minutes late and the run course is not measured properly. Couple that with a transition area that is way too crowded. The realy racers should have their own rack/area that is out of the way of the other racers. My swim rocked and the rest sucked, mostly due to my own lack of motivation. I'm not really a big fan of sprint triathlons, so it's my own fault. They are kind of expensive and a lot of work (travel, registration...) for an hour+ of racing.
