Swim
Comments: First 150-200 was good: head down, breathing decent. After fatigue started in things quickly deteriorated. Head came up and stayed up, legs fell further and further. Last 150 was absolutely painful. What would you do differently?: Simple: more open water swims. More swimming of any type. Transition 1
Comments: Transistion felt good. Had stuff laid out better this time than during 1st tri. Overall, not bad. What would you do differently?: Not much. Should I clip shoes on and run out with just socks? I'm thinking this only an option if I ride barefoot. Bike
Comments: This is where I usually start catching up to people, but during the first 1/2 mile, during the first big hill, my chain came off. Not sure if this was related to the tune-up I just had or not. Has never happened before, but I'm a newbie to the sport. I got the chain back on quickly, but had trouble getting speed clips set in the middle of a big hill. What would you do differently?: Check before race to make sure cyclometer is working. Mine must have moved on bke rack and I didn't know until it was too late. Add this check to race check list. Transition 2
Comments: Should I be taking feet completely out of shoes before dismount? Not sure. What would you do differently?: First race with toe clips/shoes, second race ever. Sounds like taking feet completely out of shoes is the better option. Not sure but will try this next time. Run
Comments: Skip the second water. Should have pushed harded at the end as I had some extra left in tank at finish. What would you do differently?: Start pushing 1/2 to 1/4 mile out to ensure that I've left it out there. Post race
Warm down: None - snacks with my children. What limited your ability to perform faster: Chain falling off in bike. My pathetic swimming ability. Although I caught a number of people in bike and run, my ability to do so was severaly limited by spending far too much time in the water. Event comments: Race seemed well run, to a newbie. Definitely a great location and great weather. They need to add a megaphone or PA down at the swim start as the commands and wave announcements were hard to hear. Overall this was a great event and a terrific effort by all involved in running it. Last updated: 2007-07-09 12:00 AM
