Run
Comments: Lots of traffic. I started in the last wave which meant I was crawling over people, most people were already coming back on the course, and even some bikes were coming out of transition. All 3 types of traffic on the same road! What would you do differently?: Not much. I kept myself under control in the midst of a lot of fast starters. Transition 1
Comments: No problems. Bike
Comments: Again, being in the last start wave meant there were a lot of people out there to pass. I enjoyed the hills and managed to push even though I did not feel 100% (far from). It was great not to have to make many turns. What would you do differently?: Not much. I gave just about all I had to give on this day. Transition 2
Comments: I knew this transition was fast since I watched a girl pass me shortly before transition but she was still mucking around with shoes when I ran out of T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The course would have worked if everyone could have remembered to STAY TO THE LEFT. I drank a little at every station. I must have run negative splits because at mile 1, I looked at my watch (mistake) and saw my pace was nearly 9 min/mile. I was disappointed in that and thought, "I'm just still sick." At that point I signed off mentally and did not try to push the pace. Perhaps the shade and drinking enough allowed me to speed up in spite of myself. I felt like everyone else was running fast and I was not. What would you do differently?: I would not give up my mental game before the end. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a lot at the end and downed 1 vitamin water and two cups of regular water immediately. I followed that with about 4 more drinks and had to pee all afternoon!!! I recovered quickly after the race which means I didn't "leave it all on the course". What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of commitment. Lack of enthusiasm. Partying too much the night before. Recovering from sickness. Lack of sleep. Event comments: I wouldn't give Dallas Athletes a hard time over this race. The weather played a big role in causing last minute changes and they did the best the could. This race would have been awesome if the weather was typical for July, the humidity was lower, the lake wasn't a mess, and the grass in the park was mowed! It had tremendous potential. I prefer having numbered bike racks though. The green port-o-potties were awesome. I bet the lines were long because people lingered in those, washing hands, playing with the toilet flusher, etc... Up at 4am. David and I both needed a few extra minutes to eat breakfast and we left at 4:40am. David drove. (thanks!)
Supposed to bike and run for 10 minutes but only ran ~5. It's a good thing I looped past the transition area, too, since my race started almost immediately after the olympic and I could have missed the start!
