Swim
Comments: 637/884 swimmers. I do have to do something about this. I will. I didn't start at the back of my wave... I started close to the front and I think this was better. I was in the draft and it was easier to navigate off of the other racers. I felt good on the swim, I just wish I could move through the water faster. What would you do differently?: Get some coaching Transition 1
Comments: Long run to my trans spot... I didn't rush, but I was organized... I even chit chatted with the Dills a little. Also, I took the time to put on socks here. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I had the course measured at 56.6 miles... and my time at 2:20:30 (24.17mph) but what is official is official. I had a great ride. I'm very pleased with this part of the race. My strategy was to ride hard... I knew it was going to be brutally hot on the run and to make time there would be much more difficult. I think this was a good decision. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Smooth transition. I changed into a running shirt and had to fix my timing chip because it was rubbing my ankle. I had to take time to get my socks under it. still a pretty good transition What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: First lap was great... I started out with my first couple of miles in the 6:50 per mile range. I backed off after 3 but was feeling pretty good over all. Once I finished the first lap, I began to tighten up in my quads. By mile 10 I was fading fast and was in full on survival mode. I knew I was slowing but I could still have a good race if I just kept moving and managed my fade. My last two miles were around 8:40 each. I just couldn't surge at the end. This is what I thought would happen and it did. What would you do differently?: I don't know. In this heat, I just did the best that I could Post race
Warm down: Grabbed an ice cold water... chatted with Tyra and Amy and then walked to the reservoir and soaked. Then, I found the beer tent! What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat. My slow swim. Event comments: Today was a personal best at this distance... I shaved about 29 minutes off my previous personal best. This course 2 years ago. I am really happy with my ride. It may have been my best ride ever. This was a challenging day and I think I lived up to it! Last updated: 2007-07-12 12:00 AM

I wasn't feeling this race. The lead-up over the last week was weird. I had an issue with my hand probably brought on by the stress of Lilia's departure and my overall focus was everywhere but on the race.
Saturday night I dropped off Lilia at the airport and the permanence of our separation blasted my spirit. I felt empty and alone. The last thing that I wanted to do was prepare my gear to race…
Luckily for me, SGT VIK brought over a 12 pack of PBR and we drank some beers while I organized my gear on the living room floor. The beer and the company helped and by mid-night I was tired enough to go to bed and I was looking forward to the race - If not to race, to see my BT friends.
I woke up at 3 AM because I sort of got side-tracked by the beer. I didn’t finish preparing my stuff. I brewed some coffee, had 2 slices of toast and a soy yogurt and was on the road by 4:30.
Set up my transition, visited the porta-potty and went down to the swim start. Usually I swim a little, but this time I didn’t.
No warm up.
