Pre-race routine:

Woke up early and got the last stuff together. The forecast was a high of 53 and 80% chance of showers so it was hard deciding what to wear. I opted for shorts and I am glad that I did. Lee and I picked up our friend, John. Had a cup of coffee and peanut butter and honey sandwiches on the drive. Hung around with everyone and then got on the busses to go to the start.

Comments:

The course starts out on a downhill so it was difficult to start slow. I got to the 3 mile station in just about 27 minutes so I knew I needed to slow down. My pace for this distance is more around 10 minute miles. Rolling hills thru several Bozeman neighborhoods. It was really cool how the homeowners came out to cheer us on. Lee and John took off and I never saw them again. They ended up running a 1:43 and a 1:47. Damn boys. I was alone for most of it but kind of leapfroged with one guy who thanked me at the end for keeping him going.
What would you do differently?:

I felt great to be under 10 minute miles as it was a personal goal. But out of the women over all I was around 35 of 60 or so and that is kind of depressing. I think I am ready to work on speed. I did sprint in to the finish and was happy about having a strong finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Stopped. Walked a little bit. Hugged some friends. Ate some pizza. It was freezing at the finish as it had rained on us most of the time. We just kept adding layers to the point where I was in my down vest, hat and mittens and Lee and John looked over at me and said my lips were blue. Headed home to have lunch with the girls.
