Run
Comments: Felt pretty good and too a nice easy pace (I thought anyway). A little challenging with narrow road sharing the space with two lanes of cycling and two lanes of runners. What would you do differently?: Not much, it was a good time for me. Transition 1
Comments: Ran in bike shoes. Transition area before the mount point was sandy, so found that hard to run on. Changing into run shoes was ok this time, but could have been faster though. Also spent a bit of time preparing run shoes for T2. What would you do differently?: Practice with the change to bike shoes. Bike
Comments: Had to be very vigilent due to the public being on the course too. Turned out to be not as bad as I thought. Was happy with the time even though I stayed in one gear pretty much the whole race. What would you do differently?: Change gears more and work harder. Transition 2
Comments: Spent a bit too much time getting the running shoes on, as I had clean off the socks due to the sand at transition. Should have used a towel. What would you do differently?: Use a towel when changing the shoes. Run
Comments: A little slow at the beginning, but picked up the speed during the race and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Practice bricks more Post race
Warm down: Wandered the race area and then back to get the ferry. What limited your ability to perform faster: Trepidation of the bike, with the public having access to the course, this meant that you had to be very dilligent. Event comments: Was a fairly disorganized. It's the first for this venue and I think they will have learnt a lot about the logistics of getting every over to the island on time for the race and getting everything setup. Next time would be better to close the course from the public too. Last updated: 2007-07-18 12:00 AM

Met my buddy at 6:30 and drove downtown to the ferry docks. Found parking just across the street ($25 for the day). Unloaded and joined the line up for the ferry ticket. Got the ferry at about 7:30 and was at the Island and at the transition site before 8. Lined up and did the registration, bib collection and body marking. At this time they told us that the water temp was 56F compared to 72F the day before and that the swim was cancelled and the race was to be a DU (5k, 30k, 5k)
Wandered around the site and kept warm under the sun. Watched the prior waves go off and return to transition. Listened to the announcer telling us to be careful on the bike and the course was not closed to the public and watch for people, kids and dogs. Took a little jog around the transition to warm up.
