Run
Comments: Beach start was a hard slog as sand was pretty soft. Once on the roads and boardwalk got a little easier. Felt lots of sand in my shoe. Over all, time for the 10k was pretty much my average for a 10k race, so I was pretty please with the pace. What would you do differently?: Not too much at this time, other than keep training on the runs. Transition 1
Comments: Spent a bit more time getting sand out of the shoes in prep for second run leg. Sand was pretty wet due to sweat, so didn't want to come out. Also the T1 entrance as through sand so was a hard push to get to the transition area. What would you do differently?: Not worry about the sand Bike
Comments: Not a bad ride, could have pushed harder, but was did not know the course and was preparing for the harder hills that never came. Had one incident of a dog chasing a guy who passed me and then came after me. He hit the back wheel of my bike but luckily didn't cause any harm or cause me to drop the bike. I just slowed down a bit. At points in the ride it was pretty lonely with no one in front and no one behind. What would you do differently?: Go harder. Transition 2
Comments: Again spent more time trying to get the shoes clear of sand. What would you do differently?: Don't worry about the sand. I didn't cause any issues for this distance. Run
Comments: A little slower this time, but once got the legs going was ok. Stopped at the water stations for water and HEED. This was a crutch for me and wasn't really needed, but used as an excuse for a walk. What would you do differently?: Don't worry about the water stations, was well hydrated from the bike. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed food and stretched a little. What limited your ability to perform faster: No knowing the course and also being the first at this distance, I didn't want to burn out on the firt attempt. Event comments: Well organized and as always with HSBC races, safety was primary concern, hence the swim being cancelled. Last updated: 2007-07-18 12:00 AM

Was up at 4:15am. Showered and had Yogurt, cereal and fruit breakfast. Packed up last minute stuff in the vehicle and left the house at about 4:45am to meet friend at 5am. Got a large coffe on the was to his place. Drove up to Wasaga in about 1:30hr and got parking first row right next to Transition. Really early arrival as fiend was doing the Spring so got him there in plenty of time for registration, set up etc. All tri's were turned into Du's because of the high waves in the lake.
15 minutes before start time of 10am, did some running around the area. Then made way down to the beach for the mass start.
