Swim
Comments: Swim was good, but I think I actually went out too fast. Swam the entire way with this chick who currently swims for U. of Tennessee (overheard her saying to another gal before the start that she goes 16:52 for the 1650). She blew by me on the run up the beach -but turns out she was in a relay! I should have drafted off of her more instead of trying to beat her out of the water. At least it feels good to still keep up with the young whipper-snappers! What would you do differently?: Swim my own race Transition 1
Comments: Still need to learn that shoes in pedals thing... Wetsuit got stuck on ankles again which was annoying. What would you do differently?: Remove wetsuit faster and learn that shoes already clipped in bike trick Bike
Comments: Had some trouble breathing on the bike -I think this was from going ana in the swim a bit. Bike was strong but should have been faster -little disappointed in the time, however I had to pass a ton of people since I was in the last wave and there were a lot of hills. Only got passed by Donna Kay Ness in the middle of the bike course -she didn't just pass -she BLEW by me. Well, she has won her AG at Kona... What would you do differently?: Not much Transition 2
Comments: Average transition -at least my bike didn't fall over this time when I tried to rack it What would you do differently?: learn to take shoes off while riding. Run
Comments: still had issues with breathing for first 1/2 of run -after about 1.5 miles was able to start getting some air (love having asthma!). I feel like I could have run faster than this and was a little disappointed. Noticed my arms were hanging low while running (thanks Mom and Dad for videotaping!) and need to increase leg tempo (though running in sand ain't easy). Also, because I was having trouble breathing I let my head get to me -I'm still nervous about running and passing out and feel like I hold back some because of this. What would you do differently?: Track workouts with TT start on Wed -definitely need to work on speed. Work on mental... Post race
Warm down: Chit chat -actually was chatting so much with friends that missed my name for the award! My friend Sarah who was handing out awards noticed when I came over during the 50+ AG awards and told me to come up -luckily the race director knows me so gave me a call out :) What limited your ability to perform faster: see above Event comments: Nice dryfit shirts for everyone who entered the race, however I think they blew the budget on the shirts for everyone because the prizes were weak-mesh bag (don't need ANOTHER1) water bottle from last year, mini body glide, clif shot and hat. I preferred the nice asics tech fabric shirts they gave out last year. Last updated: 2007-07-19 12:00 AM
