Comments:

FREEZING water. I struggled to keep my face in the water for the first 100 meters. Then I started swimming and got in a better form for the rest.
What would you do differently?:

be more comfortable in COLD water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

AFter the run up hill into transition I took my time. I struggled getting my feet clean & dry to put socks on. I also forgot to eat a gel before the swim, so I paused to get one there and wash it down.
What would you do differently?:

Not sit down as early. Bring easier to get into socks.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 37s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 7.56 mile/hr
Comments:

What a ball buster of a ride. Had to hike the bike up a lot of crazy stuff. A beautiful course, but it was HARD
What would you do differently?:

Not sign up for an event that close to Boulder ever again! Those people aren't normal.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
What would you do differently?:

forgot my sun glasses as I left for run. Need to remember that.
Run
  • 29m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked fast up the steep hills and ran down the other sides. Kept strong effort and had a monster kick to the finish line.

I passed a lot of people on the run - I was pretty pleased with my run considering how hard the bike portion was.
What would you do differently?:

ran just a bit faster. I kept feeling that it would be longer (the bike just drug on & on) so I was afraid that the run would be the same. Had I realized how close I was I could have run a bit harder throughout.

Event comments:

This was the first year for the event - and it showed. Volunteers didn't know where things were or how things were structured. After the race there was no more music or festivities, so we sat in a dirt parking lot until the raffle was done.

The bike course was grueling. Several people that I saw described it as "by far" the most technical course they'd seen in a race like this. On the course a lady who had recently finished an ironman described the ride as the hardest thing that she had ever done.
