Pre-race routine:

wake-up at 3:30am for the 2hr ride to race, DD for coffee 4:15, arrive at race site 6:30am, began drinking h2o around 5:30am, Felt great to be at my first international event. After T setup walked around to visualize.
Event warmup:

mostly walking and visualizing.
Swim
  • 23m 44s
  • 1109 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim, goggles broke just before needed to tape them together, start was not good swam diagonal instead of straight, cost me so much time, then I did it again on the return trip down the back side. If I swam straight I believe I would have had a good swim.
What would you do differently?:

sight more keeping me in a straight line
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Bike
  • 1h 44m 2s
  • 30.4 miles
  • 17.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good after swim got out on bike and felt fine, thought I thought i did much better than my time showed. Lost my chain on the third lap that cost me allot of time. It was on the 1st hill after the T area. Also stopped to help someone for a short time on the 4th lap.
What would you do differently?:

more hill work, learn how to use my gears better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Run
  • 1h 18m 56s
  • 7.2 miles
  • 10m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Was comfortable on run. Needed to walk up hill on back side of bridge. Felt like i waited a few minutes to late to have my last GU on run and slowed down at end.
What would you do differently?:

need to do more speed work on my running
Post race
Warm down:

packed up and walked stuff back to car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of speed training and poor line swimming

Event comments:

Thought the race was great, well worth my trip to Greenfield. The Volunteers were great. I have done many TRIs that the volunteers end up leaving before the last runners come through. The motivational words on road of the hill were a real lift at a tough part of the race.

thanks to all the Volunteers that stick with us finishers.
