Swim
Comments: This wasn't a very good swim. There were about 100 people in our wave and it is a narrow swim so not a lot of room to spread out. I just couldn't get out of the pack and couldn't get a good pull or into clean water the whole swim. My watch was pulled off 200m into the swim but I was able to get it strapped back on. I thought of letting it drop but I really like that watch. :-) People kept hitting and kicking me and I did get pulled down a couple times. When I finally got out of that pack I caught up to the wave in front of me and I had to dodge them. My stroke was good and I did a good job maintaining my composure during the chaos but just couldn't get into a rhythm. What would you do differently?: Wish I could find someone to draft but there were just too many people. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition and time was right up there with top. Little bit of a run to bike and I had my usual favorite spot close to Bike In/Out. Didn't wear socks so that was quick again. I've often debated on leaving my shoes clipped on the pedals but when I peddled past 3 people trying to get their feet in their shoes I figured there's really nothing to be gained by doing that. Bike
Comments: First race with my new bike and I was flying by people. I felt really strong and beat my projected time and speed by quite a bit. It was funny as I talked to someone from Houston who thought this was a hilly ride. I chuckled a little because this was a flat ride compared to what I'm used to. I love hills. They make you stronger. The course was a little busy and I had to be careful a couple times going around people. Transition 2
Comments: Since the last part of the bike is straight and downhill it was easy to pull my feet out of the shoes and ride on top of my shoes. My time was again in the top few. Run
Comments: Came out of transition and really felt strong. Legs felt great and I hope they always feel like that because of the new tri bike. About 1 mile out I saw a guy in my age group and it was John who finished behind me at Marble Falls. At first I wondered if I should just stay behind him the rest of the run and go past him with just under a mile to go. I stayed 15 yards behind him for a while and decided the pace was too slow. I ran by him and talked to him for a few seconds before I went past him. 1/2 mile after the turn around he was quite a bit behind me so I felt he wouldn't catch me. Good choice to go past him early and I ended up turning it up even more the last mile for a strong finish. I'm happy with this run time as I wanted to come in at a 6:40 pace and ended up at 6:28. Post race
Event comments: I love the Jack and Adams races and I'm glad I did this. I love this venue and they always have a great race. My major concern was giving up a long ride day Saturday and long run day Sunday to do this race. My AA race is Cancun and this may not have helped it but I guess I have to realize I do this for fun.... And it's always fun ending up on the podium. Last updated: 2007-08-06 12:00 AM

The usual wake up and breakfast. Woke up at 4:30 and ate toast with peanut butter. Coke zero to get some caffeine and then a banana. Had everything packed and the drive to the race was quiet. Got a great parking spot and had an easy walk to transition.
Went to go for my usual 6 minute warmup run and my iPod wasn't working. Not sure why because I had just charged it. I was bummed because I have the pump up music to get me going. Ran without it and it was weird. Got my swim stuff and swam maybe 300m. Came back to shore for my break and went back for another 200m. I was ready for the race and took a Gu 15 minutes before my wave.
