Comments: Oh it was soooooo hard to breathe! I thought the new asthma medication would be enough to sustain breathing (hadn't needed the rescue in haler in the pool in along time) But I did get a nice place in the front of my wave, motivated me to stay in front. What would you do differently?: Taken a hit off the rescue inhaler prior to the start. Transition 1
Comments: Took some time to sit and put on socks and shoes, took the time to breathe. Grabbed bar, gum and bike gloves, put inhaler in the back of tri suit. What would you do differently?: Need to FORGET the stupid gloves, didn't even put them on, they ended up in the back of my tri suit. Would like a pouch on the bike for the inhaler to already be there. Need the zip shoe ties to replace laces. Un-clip helmet from bike prior to race and "set" on handle bars, not connected. Need gel, not bars, need gel to be in pouch on handle bars. Need pain killer for headache. Bike
Comments: This was the hardest part. I didn't train very well for this portion of the race. Just figured it was a bike race, how hard could it be (HA!). What would you do differently?: Would prefer a camel back instead of water bottles, had to switch them out (the one from under the lowest bar to the handle bar one when handle bar one was empty) that took time and almost caused me to fall. Started to get a headache, over compensated by drinking a ton. Bar made me feel yucky. Turns were bad, wide and clumsy. Started the bike out slow and easy, would have preferred to get a better start. NEED A ROAD BIKE. Next time ride the full course at least once. maybe invest in a cheap bike computer so I know how fast/slow I am going. Hmmmm good Christmas idea... Transition 2
Comments: This was a decent transition. Couldn't decide last minute on the bars to eat while I ran. Shouldn't have had any, need some gel. Should have had more water to drink. What would you do differently?: Have gel instead of bars. Pick it before race. Run
Comments: Walked too much. Had too much food, not enough water. Need race belt to be adjusted with tri suit on (kept moving around). Inconsistent walk jog run pattern. What would you do differently?: Train by running uphill more, have gel on hand, get a tri belt with water bottles or a hand held water bottle to take with me. Poor water on my head after removing helmet before putting on hat. Use in haler earlier to save breathing. Breathe better. Post race
Warm down: HA! What warm down. I collapsed at the finish line, thought I was going to puke. Unless you count getting the tri suit off to pee in the hot stinky outhouse, that was a it of a work out. Event comments: For my first ever tri, this was a good one. LOTS of people, fun, good organization. They ran out of water though *gasp* but had plenty of beer lol maybe that sends the wrong message. Eat breakfast, drink water, walk bike in from parking lot (it's a haul!)
Jogged down to watch Mom's swim start. Went potty (you laugh but getting the singlet tri suit on and off is a work out!)
