Swim
Comments: This was a reverse tri, so stop reading and read RR from the bottom up. This swim was a TOTAL survival of the fittest smack down!! I was with a frog swimmer and a guy who hopped across the pool the entire time. I got punched twice by people swimming toward me, and had to skinny and shimmy between people and just totally fight my way through it. It was worse than ANY OWS becuase there you don't have people swimming AT you, AND the smack down thins out quicky and you are on your way. This was a non-stop onslaught!! I made it though, and acutally had a good swim for me. I think the survival instinct kicked in, and it didn't really leave me time to think about my breathing or how hard swimming is. Transition 1
Comments: This is actually T2. A little slower, had to stop and take off my socks. Was just slowly jogging to the pool to try to get my breathing under control before I jumpped in. Bike
Comments: I rocked the bike. My HR was through the roof at the start coming off the run, but I just worked the first 3 miles trying to get both HR and breathing under control, and just worked on picking off people one by one. I have become pretty stong on the bike, so I was able to make up a lot of ground I lost on the run. Nothing feels better than dropping some young, super fit guy on the bike! "Yeah baby...on your left!" I was able to keep up the same pace, if not better on loop two. Felt strong on the bike! What would you do differently?: Nothing!! Transition 2
Comments: This is really T1. I had a fast transition for me. I had my visor and race belt in my hand already, and just needed to kick off my shoes, throw on the bike shoes, sun glasses and helmet and I was off. Ran to the mount line, and just started flying. Run
Comments: I started near the front because with the mass start, if you are toward the back, you are just adding time on, so I always start in the front. Let them all pass me is my motto. And they did. I just keep steady as she goes. It's kind of discouraging to get passed by SO many people while running, but I was looking at my HR and KNEW I could not run any faster and keep it up for 3 miles, so I just did my pace and knew that by the end I would be able to pick a few people off who came out strong and faded. I actually hit my stride at mile 3 and started picking it up. Picked 12 people off in the last 3/4 of a mile, and ran down 2 dudes right at the end. I am actually really happy with my run time, as I just don't train for sprint races anymore. Running a sprint and run training for a HIM are 2 different things!!! I just did what I could and it worked out! What would you do differently?: Have it be 20 degrees cooler so my HR wouldn't be through the roof!! Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: HEAT Event comments: Good race for me. SOOOO happy a cloud bank came in and blocked the sun. It would have been absolutely brutal on the run if the sun were still beating down, so that saved us. It was still probably right around 100 though. 2nd in AG 9th woman overall out of 61 women Last updated: 2007-08-07 12:00 AM

Ran around frantically trying to find my child, and hanging with the sheriff giving his description, etc.... You know....a happy, calm time for me!!
