Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/27
Pre-race routine:

Bowl of Go Lean Crunch
Can of Diet Dr. Pepper.
Arrived right as transition opened to get a good spot.
Event warmup:

Ran for 10mins.
Swam 50m in pool prior to start.
Swim
  • 07m 24s
  • 350 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started way back in the pack which was a little annoying as a number of people in front of me had no business being there. (Especially those swimming breast stroke!) I
What would you do differently?:

Start up further in the pack, but other than that, not much. It was a great swim for me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

The only issue I had was my right foot was a little too wet when I put my sock on, so it ended up a little too tight which caused me an issue later in the ride.
Had issues getting clipped in at the mounting point, but I'm used to that problem.
What would you do differently?:

Actully take a second to dry my feet prior to putting my socks on.
Bike
  • 40m 16s
  • 12.7 miles
  • 18.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Got stuck and blocked by someone as I was going up the main hill right near the top. Had to pretty much come to a stop before he finally moved out of my way. Other than that, no issues with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder on the bike. I had enough left in me at the end of the race that I didn't need to conserve on the bike as much as I did.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Apparently I had a great transition here because I was 1st in my age group (only thing I was first in for the entire race! :) )
Run
  • 24m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out behind someone who I thought was running a decent pace and stayed with him for awhile. Turned out that he really was going slower than I should have been and I should have passed him right away. It took me awhile to realize that most people I was running near were going fairly slowly (mainly because I started pretty far back in the swim), so I shouldn't have paced with them. I did far better once I set my own pace.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder for the entire run, but in general, I put in a good run time, so I think I could have gotten the most gain from increasing my bike speed.

Event comments:

The facilities were great and the course was wonderfull. They had plenty of support who cheered us on the entire way. It was a great race especially considering it was my first triathlon ever. I really enjoyed myself and am looking forward to the next one!

Kept my HR under control the entire ride. Started out at 165 and ended at 168. Should have probably pushed a little harder on the bike.

Course: 2 laps around a square. The wind was with us going up the hilly portion, but on the flat portion, it right into my face which really slowed me up.
