Swim
Comments: this was only my second open water swim, it went much better then my first, I wanted to pace myself and be out under 25 minutes. which I did, overall considering I just started swimming memorial weekend was pretty satified. What would you do differently?: because I was holding my line pretty well, I could have taken longer stretches between swimming heads up, been a little more relaxed at the start, all those people makes me a little edgy. Transition 1
Comments: my cycling shoes have a buckle so I had to put them on before leaving, plus when i put my jersey on all my gel fell out so I had to reload my pockets, socks seemed to take forever to put on. went without last race, and ruined my heels during the run. so figured better take the time. What would you do differently?: maybe try to put my shoes on during the bike. Bike
Comments: The only trouble I had with a technical crowded course is it made getting fluids in difficult. I wanted to have two std bottles down by transition and I only made 1.5. My pace was fast but not overwhelming for me, I could carry 24 easily on this course if I was just riding. What would you do differently?: this is definitely the easy spot for me, drinking more fluids would have been beneficial considering the lack of aide stations on the run. Transition 2
Comments: this transition went well for me, I did take the time to polish off the rest of my water bottle before leaving. What would you do differently?: take the full water bottle sitting at my station with me on the run. fluids fluids fluids. Run
Comments: felt really good at start transitioned to the run great, got right into my pace. I pretrained this course, rode my bike and then ran, and I averaged 8:45. So figured I could maintain 9:00 avg. When I got to the second mile marker and had yet to see water, I was already starting to need it, by the time I got the aide station and started trying to get the fuel in, it was too late. Started cramping at 3.5, and had to walk run the rest of the course. I have 9:00 for first three miles, and BOOM finished way off that. upset me a little bit, I even thought about taking one of my bottles with me and decided against it. oh well, second race, will remember that next time. What would you do differently?: TAKE WATER WITH ME, OR HELP THE OTHER GUYS BUILD SOME AIDE STATIONS. Post race
Warm down: drank everything I could find What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of fluids, I actually finished about where I thought I would, even though the run was a demoralizing walk of shame. Event comments: scoring top notch, organization was good, personnel helping needed proper direction, they did not know how to perform there given tasks. The course was great, bike course was a little sketchy, (why not go around the lake 3 times on the bike????) Only the second year they have hosted it, I expect it to get better every year. hang in CB, IA you can do it. Last updated: 2007-08-29 12:00 AM

Woke up and ate two bananas and a power bar with plenty of fluids. stretched at home and loaded the truck. walked a lot and finished stretching once I arrived at the race and had my morning release. Considering this is only my second triathlon and is almost twice as far as the last race I did, I felt really calm and ready to go. No real nerve. Only goal was to finish under 2:45.
Kept the warm up short quick run, to loosen up everything, rode bike to make sure everything was in proper working order.
