Swim
Comments: So...I started out on the edge of the pack for this one. And I think it added a lot of yardage to my swim. Navigation NOT good. Then, about 3/4 of the way around it dawned on me that I wasn't going nearly as fast as I could. I was concentrating a lot on form and getting into a rythm...almost like it was a practice rather than a race. I was more concerned with just working on the ocean swim again - dealing with the people and the waves, etc. So at the end I began picking up the pace. Someone was drafting me (first time ever!) What would you do differently?: Ummm...swim faster. Hahaha. Transition 1
Comments: I was pretty slow. Or that is what I recall. I chugged my drink AGAIN. Always so dehydrated after an ocean swim (swallow waay too much water). First time without sox or gloves on a ride. That was good! What would you do differently?: Not drink during transition. Bike
Comments: I had trouble with some of the turns. I really slowed down on them. That stunk. I went to my big ring - but, had to get out of it. Not sure if that was a wise decision to make. I did ok on the hills though. I don't think I drank at all on the ride again (BAD me) and I was still getting used to the gears, etc. What would you do differently?: Drink on the ride. I just need more riding experience. That's all. Transition 2
Comments: I was afraid of slipping on the pavement when I was running with the bike. But - at transition everything was good. Run
Comments: Oh this wasn't a good run! Well, I was trying to use the Pose Method for the first time in a race. About 1 mile and a half into it my calves were killing me so much I switched to the good ol' heel/toe method. But-my quads were feeling it soooo much. At that point my calves hurt, my quads ached and I just wanted to get to the end. No stopping - that was good. But, only 1 water stop I think...and I was really thirsty. Still had the dry salt taste from the swim. I really struggled on the third mile - but, I was able to pick up some speed for the photo ops (i'm a loser) and the finish line. What would you do differently?: Not sure really. I couldn't drink more because I didn't have the opportunity. And I don't regret beginning in the pose method. It was good practice. So, nothing I guess. Just grin and get through it! Post race
Warm down: Hahaha...I did some stretching by the car when i was leaving. But, mostly just got out of there. What limited your ability to perform faster: Psychological I think. I just wasn't in the race. And I went alone - which, really I think it helps when I'm doing it with my friends. It gets me more into the race state of mind. Although, in general - I tend not to get all nervous and serious for the races..which I like. I think it can be used as an advantage. But, I think I can push myself more and I do that better when I have my pals with me. Event comments: I didn't stick around at this one - for more than one reason. Not sure if I'll do it next year..most likely not, but only because I want to do Timberman 70.3 (WOO HOO!) My head wasn't in it. That's how I felt. Not a great performance, but (as always good practice. Last updated: 2007-08-29 12:00 AM

I must have been distracted. I forgot about warming up...but took a swim in the water. Was paranoid about my wetsuit due to falmouth...so spent lots of time pulling it up and out around my neck. Did some stretching in the wetsuit since i forgot to do it earlier.
