Swim
Comments: This was a pool swim with 30 second starts. Knowing that it was a short race, I went out fairly aggresively. With about 1-1/2 laps left I caught the guy in front of me and drafted off of him until the final length of swim where I passed him. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: This race was probably my best race for transitions. My times are unknown since I didn't use my lap feature on my watch and the race wasn't chip timed, but I felt very efficient in T1. What would you do differently?: Tri shoes would help a bit, as compared to my standard road cycling shoes with 3 individual straps, but only marginally. Bike
Comments: I didn't check out the course before hand, so I was a little surprised by the overall hilly character of the course. I really attacked the 1st couple hills hard not expecting one after another, after another, etc. After the 1st few hills I went up them at a steady, but strong pace. What would you do differently?: Not much. It would have been helpful to scout out the course before hand. I probably wouldn't have hit the first few hills quite as hard. Transition 2
Comments: See notes on T1. I did leave my race belt behind, even though it was right with my running shoes. No harm done. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I kept a strong pace throughout. The only person to pass me in the entire race did so early in the run. I tried to keep that guy in my sites, but he was too fast. Felt stronger on the 2nd half of the run, but I think that it was more downhill versus the front half. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Ate an orange quarter and a banana. Drank a bottle of powerade and a bottle of water. Walked around for a few minutes, then watched the others finish up. Mark (per6594) talked into sticking around for the awards, thinking that I might actually have a shot at one. I'm glad that I listened to him because I ended up being 2nd in my age group. Event comments: This is a very small local race, around 170 people. The packet pick-up was extremely disorganized. They had a couple different lines for people who pre-registered, needed to register, USAT, Non-USAT without any signs indicating which line was which. Otherwise, the race was well run for a small scale local race. Fun race, challenging course, and would definitely do it again. Last updated: 2007-08-29 12:00 AM

Woke up a couple hours before the race and ate my usual PB&J on a whole wheat English muffin with a glass of water.
