Pre-race routine:

Left early to secure a spot in transition about 5:15 a.m. from a sleepless night at my brothers in Richfield.(O.K. 3 hours maybe...)I usually have plain oatmeal no milk with pure maple syrup but staying at my brothers and misplacing my bag of oatmeal(so disorganized when I travel) I had to get a packet from him...Some peach strawberry flavor. I put it in a cup at SA station and added hot water...Scooped the peach chunks out (Don't do anything different without trying before race day!)Eat my oatmeal and banana(I never have much of an appetite but force what I can down.Things get busier at 6:15 a.m. and I ask someone to watch my spot so I can spin the legs and get the nervous energy out. I ride up to my house I grew up in just half mile away and cruise the childhood neighbor hood. Did about 4 quick pick ups and rolled back to transition about a 15 min spin.
Jogged about 10 minutes and they were starting to secure transition so I had to get what i needed out of there.
Bathroom (picture 700+ women here) porta potties were hoppin. I found the quieter restrooms by the finish area. Wave starts- I was in wave 4.Start was delayed by 15-20 minutes due to bike course being secured.
Scoping out the competition I was thinking my top 20 bid was too high and maybe my sons dream that I got 27th was more realistic! Lots of local strong women here. With the delay waves went off every minute. Very quick!

Event warmup:

15 minute spin 4 pick ups (very short)
Jog 10 minutes.Walk as much as possible stretch stretch stretch

Comments:

The ladies in this wave went off fast and I was back a bit thinking calm down! At mile one I was 6:28 and worried it was to quick (goal pace 7min per mile avg) felt good so kept it in control but let up a titch. I wanted to keep Julia in my sights for the bike.
Felt like a doozy of an interval near the finish and the crowds appeared!
Crossed the road entered transition and felt great.Passing lots of women the whole run we ran along the left...I was worried this would be a problem with the narrow path along this lake, but the ladies were great and we just ran along the grass if need be.
What would you do differently?:

Absolutely Nothing!

Comments:

Outside of the lady from an earlier wave who took off in front of me with no helmet and was yelled back...She proceeded to take a u-turn in front of me. I veered through some cones to avoid a crash and rolled on..Oh the nerves! Things were good.

Construction out of transition.Shoes went on great felt so much better then a swim/Bike like my triathlons! Had the lungs within 1 mile.Julia came past me and I kept her near the wind was VERY strong out of the south and the lane was crowded with women.A few from 40-44 went back and forth the first lap. I passed Julia and just wanted to leave them all behind but we were all hungry! A couple times there were draft issues but I am not afraid to yell,And after Julia told me someone was sucking my wheel and then the lady passed me I just caught back up and yelled Watch the draft. It was crowded but you don't have to hang that long and close. It would have definetly have made a difference the wind was strong. Second lap Julia went ahead and I kept her close. I was sick of the back and forth and I was happy with my performance I also wanted to finish the second run.A bit of confusion with the lap sign and finish sign...I went down the lane that said finish and it was on the left side of the road down suicide(which is a very curved steep downhill and quick turn onto chalet road a right.....right across the lane for lap riders?!)I was at 38mph and had to take my right...quick slowdown and shoes came off- long run down Bike transition and long run through transition but I liked that to get my legs back.

What would you do differently?:

I'd like to go faster....

Excited labored breathing i stood took a few deep breathes hung up the bike put on the shoes and off.
Oh, a guy handed me a cup...I Poured it on my head as heat was now a factor, and oh was I sticky!!!
What would you do differently?:

I kinda think I did what I could...still guessing if I could have took off quicker, that transition area was huge and a long run to rack the bike.I was excited and the lungs and tummy felt it.

Wow what a hard run...Harder then any triathlon run but thank God only 2 miles!
The first mile I felt the two hills but just get up them. I kept the girl ahead in my reach the first mile,Jody i think. At mile 1 it said 6:48 on my watch I was shocked. i had set my goal time wise so far and I didn't want to lose it. I hung on and the hill by the falls came. One girl then another passed me (from an earlier wave) I wasn't to worried but one said "Are your legs like jelly?" She had good form and I thought if she is suffering i can too. i picked up the stride with 3/4 mile to go i could see the crowds across the lake and it was flat the rest of the way. We took the last turn into the woods came out and i wanted to be done badly! I didn't feel anyone behind me and just tried to finish solid(as opposed to strong!?!) and I was Done! They announced my name..seemed to know alot about my summer tri races and results and announced more then I like about that!
What would you do differently?:

Push through the pain even more?
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch-massage tent- right calf/hamstring tightening quickly!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mental for me?!?

Event comments:

Outside of the construction and narrow lake trail i was surprised it actually played no roll in a competitive performance. They have a booth where right away they can put in your number and a receipt print comes out with your personal splits...I walked around looked at results posted...Started looking down at the late 20's to 30th then in the 40's and was worried so I scanned up wondering where did I finish? I just got the chills when I was 13th place. i actually would not believe it and went to eat telling myself no way. Checked back again and it still says 13th place. A good place to be, and I am starting to believe I am good at this, I deserve to be among these other ladies that I have watched for so long. I have done the work and i believe.
