Pre-race routine:

got up feeling really good. ate english muffin with pb. headed off to race. got a little jittery before transtion closed because bike got there late and then my valve broke, but still was doing ok.
Event warmup:

none, i was freezing....unless you count a kiss and hug from hubby. i wanted to get in water but thought it would not be a warm up as i would freeze when i got out.
Swim

Comments:

i feel like i could have done this better, but i tried not to push myself too hard. the current was a bit crazy for me on the way back. sighting was a bit difficult. i was glad i had mirrored goggles. i kept telling myself the whole time just to take it easy and enjoy myself...not stress myself out..this is supposed to be fun...so..., that is what it was. fun. i truly enjoyed the swim for the first race ever. i just felt comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

probably nothing for my first half. maybe have rented a wet suit but the time it would have taken me to get off probably would have been equal to the difference in swim time.

Comments:

slow again...always slow here, but again felt ok about this. awesome to see warren out there. we joked about how slow i was going. i just always feel like i have to go over everything a million times..

Comments:

this was a BEAUTIFUL ride. i really enjoyed it. i knew i was going really slow, but i also knew i was pushing myself. i definitely was keeping the distance in mind though. i just had to be ok with everyone passing me. my butt hurt more than usual..not sure why. proabably just paranoid. anyway, seeing amy and sandy was a highlight. i did pee twice on this course. awww..fun to pee behind building. also took time to pour more water into camelback. i always feel good when people that pass me say, "wow..you are on a mountain bike!" (even though it's a hybrid). i think i speed up for just a second in those moments. i remind myself that it's ok i am slow...i am on a hybrid for crying out loud! but, who knows how i'd be on a road bike....i never have been. anyway, fun, good ride. beautiful. sang songs to pass time and felt embarrassed when people who passed heard me singing!
oh, didn't like end of course. i thought i was going to hit all these runners and had to immensily slow down, which for me is like a rolling stop.
What would you do differently?:

ride a different bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

good transtition...although slow. i decided i would take my time. stopped to give warren a kiss. just felt happy and really jacked up on caffeine! too many gu's makes me crazy. i don't even drink coke or coffee, so all this gu had me wired! i mean, i felt so jacked up.
Run
  • 2h 19m 55s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

great run! like i said, i was really hyper. i was talking to everyone. i know i was probably annoying, but i couldn't stop. i just kept cheering everyone on. i was smiling the whole way. i was just so proud of myself, and everyone out there actually. it's so amazing!
anyway, i stopped at every water stop, poured water on my head, ate pretzels and thanked the volunteers. i felt great! i was slow yes....but i was truly enjoying myself and again just so hyper. i was really suprising myself that i could even run at this point.... running after 56 miles and then also at 1:30 in the afternoon in the blazing heat. pretty cool.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.. was happy for first half im.
Post race
Warm down:

got a massage. drank a coke (that's all i needed!) rode home for three hours and talked the whole way from all the caffeine.

Event comments:

the food at the end of the race was pathetic, and the course for the runners and bikers- sharing that wasn't good. but, the volunteers were awesome and the drink stations were great.
