Swim
Comments: I have never done a wade start/ tread water start. I let the pack headout then started. I never got into a rythm because i kept getting kicked or swam up on. Plus I started to cramp around 400m. I knew hydration/illness was going to be an issue, just not this soon. I finished and was glad to be out of the water. What would you do differently?: Need more experience swimming in groups and swimming in a straight line. Transition 1
Comments: Since I started to cramp on the swim I did a mall walk (fast walk) to the transition. I took my time and slammed a 12oz gaotrade and 16oz water. Walked my bike out. What would you do differently?: not much. I made sure I did not bonk before the bike race started. Bike
Comments: This was a real hilly course. I stated great and like the swim had troubles mid way in. I drank all my water and gatorade by mile 9. Usually the water and gatorade I carry on my bike will last 24+ miles. I finished with a dencet pace and rode slow to keep my HR under control. What would you do differently?: Not much. A lot of hard training went out the window. Transition 2
Comments: Once i got off the bike I was not sure if i was going to finish the race wothout ending up in the med tent. My girlfriend could tell I was concerned. She cheered me on and I kept going. What would you do differently?: Maybe take more time to recover since I am not a 100%. But i did not and headed out. Run
Comments: I was stuggling on the run, sporadic cramping and light headed. I usually run a 9:25 pace. I felt lucky to be at an 11:25 pace. I stoppped at every aide station and took in as much water as possible. I also took a gel pack during mile 1, really helped. Oddly enough after mile 2 i started to feel good and picked up the pace. I was happy. I ran the course and rested at aide stations. What would you do differently?: I took precautions to avoid having a DNF. I felt bad on the run. Real frustrating because my training bricks I was biking 16 miles and running 4. Oh well. Next time. Post race
Warm down: I had a chocolate milk on ice and drank a lot of water and gatorade. i stayed real close to the med tent. I really thoght i was going to pass out. i was disoriented and real weak. my girlfriend was a little concerned. After about 30 min I got my gear out of transition and headed home. Once I got home I felt great, until Texas lost to ou. What limited your ability to perform faster: Got the flu. Damn Illness. Event comments: Great race. Very challenging. I liked the live music and biker bar as aide stations. Plus after the event the Free-birds buritos and sweet leaf tea. I will defintely do this race again. Last updated: 2007-10-07 12:00 AM

Started at 4:30 with a Cliff Builder Bar, Accelerade, Coffee and water. Headed to the race. There by 5:45. Racked my bike the nigt before, so got body marked and set up my transition. I have been sick for the past week so i am feeling ill (sore throat and sinus stuff) and cannot stay hydrated. Getting concerned.
The event had a really cool yoga class. After that i walked around and drank lots of water and gatorade. Which meant I walked to the restrooms a lot.
