Swim
Comments: Swim course was decent. My sighting was by far better in this race than ever before. I guess actually swimming in open water does help! The water was pretty choppy and I got slapped in the face a few times with the wake of the lifeguard boats as they patrolled the course. A few kicks and punches along the way...pretty standard stuff. I just went into this with the goal of about 40 minutes and keeping an even steady pace. Favorite part of the swim: Everyone in my wave is hanging out in the water when Aaron turns to me and says very loudly' "DID YOU JUST PEE? Oh...wait..that was all of us!" Disturbingly funny. What would you do differently?: Train. Transition 1
Comments: Got out of the water and got stripped. The wetsuit stuck on my heels, I need to use more body glide next time. What would you do differently?: Train. Bike
Comments: Nice course with some good hills. There was one section where the road was a little rough, but other than that pretty smooth. The aid stations were spaced well and the volunteers were great. Since I had not trained for this much I wanted to keep an even effort for the course and actually pace myself. I did hammer it a few times...hard to resist :) I wanted to get the bike segment in under 3 hours. Good course, some of the turns were a little shady due to either gravel in the road, or that chick in front of me who nearly stopped to make each turn. Pick one. What would you do differently?: Train. Transition 2
Comments: Uhhh..so...yeah. I forgot the course was 54, not 56 miles. So I make a turn and this guy yells dismount! OK...so never got my feet out of the shoes, just unclipped and walked into T2. Racked my bike and ast down to tie my shoes (no speed laces in the new ones). You might say T2 was a little dis-organized. After I got up from tying my shoes...I had to look around and ask where the run out was. What would you do differently?: Train. Run
Comments: Great run course. A few small inclines, but nothing too bad. Aid stations evenly spaced with lots of water, gatorade, hammer gel, and even salt tabs which came in handy since I had no hammer gel or salt tabs for the run. I packed them when I moved the day before...oops! I wanted to do it in 1:45, which I fell short of by 15 minutes. I was going close to pace until about mile 9. I was starting to hurt some and really could have used another gel about 10 minutes or so prior to this point. I took a few walk breaks and my pace just fell apart. I even stopped with one mile to go to catch my breath when a girl with an IMAZ jersey ran up next to me and said "come on Ironman" I knew that my tattoo would get me in trouble. So I ran the last mile in with her and just barely cracked 5:30. What would you do differently?: Train. Post race
Warm down: Painful hobble to the pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not Training. Event comments: Fun course. I would definetly do it again. Last updated: 2007-10-29 12:00 AM

Got out of bed about 4:30 and had some peanut butter toast and a redbull. Tossed my stuff in the car, strappeed the bike to the rack and headed out. On the drive out was when I realized that I had left my water bottles in the fridge. So I improvised and just crammed an Ozarka bottle in the cage and got some water from Aaron to fill my aero bottle.
Got everything I needed over to transition. This is when it dawned on me that warmer clothes for the bike portion of the race might have been a good idea...oops! Put on my wetsuit and got into the water for a few minutes to get the blood flowing.
