Run
Comments: Goal was 3:10...and up until mile 15 I was there...actually better. My 13.1 time was a PB of 1:34. At mile 15 I started to get a pretty sharp pain in my left hip, which eventually migrated south to my ITB. I've been working on my ITB for about a year, and thought I had it all worked out...apparently not. I had to resort to jog/walk for about 3 miles until I saw a Med Tent, where I had the medic stretch my ITB out enough that I could plod through the last 7-8 miles. Also the forefoot on both of my feet felt like I had blisters on them from about mile 3 on. It wasnt enough to take me out, but still bugged the crap out of me the whole race. Gotta get that figured out... Overall this race was bittersweet. I finished my first Mary in a decent time...just not as good as I know I can do. My training was good, I logged great times that had me at 3:10 no problem...just sucks that injuries ruined it. What would you do differently?: Figure out this foot pain thing out. Start off slower and remember to run my own race. Attack this hip and IT Band issue like a bat out of hell. Post race
Warm down: walk, stretch, and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: hip, foot, & IT band Event comments: Race was organized great. Tons of spectators, tons of drink and medic tents. Great pre race communication from Race officials. Tons of emails, maps, faq's, etc. I would totally recommend this race to anyone looking for a fun Mary. Last updated: 2007-11-01 12:00 AM
