Swim
Comments: Great swim for me. Best swim time ever. Couldnt believe my time. What would you do differently?: Actually could have put a little more effort into the swim, but was afraid to drain my energy for the rest of the race. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time anticipating the bike. Didn't hurry. Long run from water to bike. What would you do differently?: Speed it up...actually took too much time Bike
Comments: I had done enough volume work prior to the race, so the distance wasnt an issue, but I still was ready to get off the bike by the time I was done. There were 2 bridges, the second, smaller bridge was hard on the bike - lots of construction bumps made for a jarring ride. I heard it was a problem causing damage for some bikes. What would you do differently?: More intensity in training for this. I was slighlty disappointed with my mph average. Also, was anticipating the run, so didn't push as much as I could Transition 2
Comments: Came in to T2, was definitely needing a break. Walked with the bike to the rack...already had running shoes on. Strapped my fuel belt on and walked out of transition. Saw my wife, had a short conversation, she gave me a pep talk, and off I went. What would you do differently?: Get out of transition quicker Run
Comments: This was where my biggest problems were. I was definitely prepared to handle the run mentally, but physically started to wear out after only half way through the first lap. Although the roots were painted, the paint seemed to attract my shoes. I kept tripping up, stumbling, and losing rhythm. Not to mention, hurting the knees a little. 6 times I tripped. Also, began cramping in the quads...not enough to stop, but had to walk, drink, and then continue at a more than leisurely pace...enough to run with another racer from Curacao and have a conversation. What would you do differently?: Electrolytes! Although was using perpetum from hammer, will need to supplement with electrolytes. I think the heat of the day - hotter and more humid than in the previous week or two threw off my nutrition/water balance a little. I know I was conditioned to handle the distance, but will have to remember to over do the lytes a little. Post race
Warm down: Water. Banana. Sitting under the tent with Kim (wife) and Jade (tech from work). Relaxed. Then to bayside to bubba gump shrimp for some food - and beer! What limited your ability to perform faster: Electrolyte imbalance, cramping, tripping on the run, low intensity training, mental anticipation of the length of the race...all played a role. Event comments: Very well put together race for the first annual M.I.T. I thought the post-race food was a little less than desirable - fried stuff. Although they did have some fruit and bagels. Will do this one again. Last updated: 2007-11-02 12:00 AM

Got there early enough to quickly set up transition. Dropped bike off the previous day. Had cheerios and 1/2 banana at the hotel before going to the race. Lot of nerves - 1st oly for me.
Light stretching and a quick swim in the ocean to test out the wetsuit - first time wearing it - fit perfectly.
