Swim
Comments: i had my first OW race without a freakout! big accomplishment there. i attribute it to my comfort in the water, in racing and with the music player in my head. i had theme music playing in my head the whole swim. What would you do differently?: sight better, get in the water sooner, swim farther out around buoys so i don't get caught in the crowd. hit HRM on water exit so i can time T1. Transition 1
Comments: had a bit of a problem gettting suit off of right ankle. no biggie. was very confused in my transitions. What would you do differently?: set up transition area better. get to race sooner for prime spot. start bike computer!! DOH! completely must have flaked on that...although i swear i hit it...data did not record. ACTUALLY, IT DID RECORD. for some reason, it never turned off...don't konw why it didn't upload yesterday. Bike
Comments: bike leg was going great. got a tremendous second wind, when i flattted at the bottom of the big hill on the course (mile 10, 11% grade hill). almost wiped out turning the corner into it bc of the flat. tried to climb with what little air i had, but had to pull over. rear tire flat change took me 11 mins. it was long and tedious, but at least i figured it out and did it w/no tire irons. rest of bike was shot. What would you do differently?: no flat! Transition 2
Comments: practice this a few times to perfect the steps. problem was i had to rack my bike in a different spot than my towel. usually helmet goes on bike, but got a bit confused with that for some reason. bad decision making. What would you do differently?: finish the bike faster so i have a spot on the rack! lol. Run
Comments: felt like i got stronger as the race went on. concentrated on cadence and my legs, although tired, responded and i added speed. What would you do differently?: need some work on pace and aerobic capacity. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: flat tire, crowded swim Event comments: did i mention that i had a flat tire and forgot to turn on my bike computer for recording?? now i have no idea how my bike leg was and how long the flat actually took. damn. Last updated: 2005-02-25 12:00 AM

rode bike 5 miles to race start. nice leisurely pace. got transition area all setup, decided to go get my number put on. line was too long, so waited in the bathroom line for 15 mins. it was a painful 15 mins as my race time got closer and closer...ran out of the bathroom, ran to get my wetsuit, ran to scribble my number MYSELF on my body...ever try to write with the wrong hand on your arm? my number was unreadable. anwyay...2 mins to my wave start...ran 300 yds along the beach, plopped in the water and "go" - race start. GREAT.
