Pre-race routine:

Quick spin on bike to make sure mechanicals were OK. I just put the new Ergomo powermeter on the bike and the bottom bracket/crank spacing isn't quite the same as the old DA setup, so I had to have the Gear West folks do a quick adjustment on the front derailleur.
Event warmup:

About 15 min of running and some striders to warm up

Comments:

Hammered. Results said 6:26 pace
What would you do differently?:

Longish bike ride day before took some zip out of my legs for the race but I wasn't willing to give up a whole weekend of training for an early duathlon. That's one reason I've cut back on racing Sunday races this year.

Comments:

Haven't practiced mounting bike with shoes already mounted on pedals this spring so I put my shoes on in the T area before mounting bike. Slowed me down a fair bit
What would you do differently?:

Put shoes on bike ahead of time

Comments:

Hammered. Results said 22.5 mph. Last year with my old road bike I wasn't in the mix with any of the other elite wave racers. With the new bike this year I was able to mix it up a fair amount. I compared the bike splits of some of the local pros and top elites for 2008 and 2007 and most of them were within 30 seconds of last year's split - surprising with the strong winds we had. My bike split this year was 1:56 faster than last year. Probably mostly due to the new bike but hopefully some due to better bike fitness - who knows?
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - was willing to blow a gasket
Transition 2

Comments:

Got out of my shoes while still on the bike

Comments:

Hammered. Results said 6:48 pace - seems too slow to be correct
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged about 10 minutes but had to go catch a plane right after the race so grabbed my stuff and hit the road.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably affected by the bike ride the day before, but that was the plan.

Event comments:

This is always a great, competitive early race in our region. The off-road run course is a nice change of pace from other races.

Not sure the course measurement is correct - split sounds slow, but may be due to no zip in the legs
Course: Run course is changed this year due to some construction on the high school grounds - about a minute slower they were saying. This course is almost totally off-road. In some sections you are tooling through the woods on narrow trails, getting whacked in the face with tree branches as you try to take corners as close as possible, sometimes grabbing tree trunks to make hairpin turns - a blast!
