Swim
Comments: I never got comfortable in this swim...at all. I fought my breathing the entire 1500m. My time was my best but it should have been better with my lessons and the training I have been doing. The one good thing I think I did was sighting...I was pretty much online the whole time. What would you do differently?: More longer swims at SMU. More open water practice in EoL. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time in T1. Especially after I threw up right when I got to my transition area...that was a precursor of BIG fun to come an hour later! One thing I didn't notice until after my 2nd lap on the bike was that as I was pulling off my wetsuit, I knocked my timing chip off of my leg...hence the INC time for the bike. Basically I was a complete idiot in T1. I also enjoyed the dirt and mud caked on my feet before putting my socks on...big fun there. What would you do differently?: Not throw up would be a nice start. Get more proficient at removing a wetsuit. Bike
Comments: I was very pleased with my effort on the bike and it proved to be my fastest pace at this distance, to date. It was already getting hot and I tried to drink every 10 - 15 minutes but I could feel myself getting dehydrated so I don't know if I needed more fluids or what. Having done hill work at White Rock really payed off as the hills on this course were a piece of cake. Also, having to do sharp turns at White Rock helped on this course since there were so many sharp turns all through the course. A lot of people seemed to struggle on that. What would you do differently?: Work on my fluid intake and keep getting stronger. Pretty happy here. Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2. I was spent from the ride and the walk from the dismount area to my spot was probably 300 yards if not further so I figured I would rest and just walked my bike in to catch my breath. What would you do differently?: Not sure...I wanted to have some time here to rest before the run, since it was so hot. Run
Comments: What can I say...I completely blew up here. 100 yards into my run I knew I was in trouble as I threw up again for the first of about 10 hurls on the run. My calves and quads immediately cramped up and I couldn't run more than about 100 to 150 yards before I threw up again. No water, no ice, no gatorade would stay down. I passed P Fiddy at about the 1 mile mark and he looked tired but he was fighting through it and tried to encourage him since my race was done. I contemplated DNF'ing but once I got to mile 3, I just said fuck it...might as well walk it out since my race is shot, regardless. I was able to shuffle the last quarter mile across the finish line and accept that I had nothing today. Couldn't get my HR down after the race so I went to the medic tent and got wrapped in ice towels bye one of the medics. After about 15 minutes I was able to get it around 107 to 110. This was a complete disaster and a little scary as I was dizzy a lot while walking/running. The only positive thing I can say is that I finished. The support of our crew after was really cool too...gotta love EoL and SoMo! What would you do differently?: Not do a race while being sick is probably a good start or don't push it as hard on the bike as I did while not feeling well. I have to get out in the heat more. I suck at this part of Triathlon's and until I get better at it, I will never improve. I also need to get better at my liquid intake before and during the run. Post race
Warm down: In the medic tent wrapped in ice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, not being 100% healthy before the race, not being properly trained for this distance Event comments: Great race...I just wasn't ready for the heat. I will be back in '09 you f'er and I will conquer you!!! Last updated: 2007-12-09 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00 and showered and went up to the Murphy Suite for english muffin's a banana, and some water for the pre-race feast. Loved the travel Tri toaster.
We racked our bikes the day before so we go to transition at about 6 and set up our shit. The transition area was the biggest I had seen yet and I realized that the run in and out of transition from the swim to the bike and back in before the run was going to be long...it was!
None to speak of. A bunch of waiting around and emptying of the colon (two times) as the race was about an hour behind schedule. This would prove to be fateful for old Big T.
