Total Time = 1h 12m 31s
Overall Rank = 388/599
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 32/43
Pre-race routine:

Up too early, bagel with peanut butter, coffee and out the door. The drive down to San Diego was not too bad at all.

Sherri and I met up with Mike, Kelly, and Keith at transition.
Event warmup:

None really, should have done something.
Swim
  • 11m 35s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm still learning how to swim really but I was very happy because I freestyled the whole distance. I stayed with some of the other swimmers in my wave which surprised me and had me smiling coming out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Practice bi-lateral breathing more. I was definately pulling to the right (the side I was breathing on) and had to correct my course about every 4th stroke.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Seemed slow, I just focused on not forgetting anything. My splits were kinda messed up, think I hit the button while fighting the wetsuit but I think this time is pretty close.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions more.
Bike
  • 29m 24s
  • 9 miles
  • 18.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun ride, tried to keep the feet spinning and the speed up.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder maybe? I was pooped at the end so maybe not. ;)
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Same as T1, seemed to stare at my stuff more than grab and go.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice.
Run
  • 26m 57s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off fast but slowed myself down so that I didn't run out of juice. Paced off of a couple of runners through the run which seemed to work pretty well. I had a really fun sprint at the end with another guy in my age group that just flew past me. I tried really hard to catch him but couldn't do it.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to pace myself in a race better. I think I could have kept a faster pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and walked around a bit looking for the others.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Consistancy in training. Some nasty bugs floating around a few weeks back.

Event comments:

Awesome race. This was my second tri and the difference in my comfort level compared to my first race last year was huge. I was having fun the entire time even though I was working hard.

Lot's of friendly people at the race which helps tons. The racks were tight but everyone near me was polite and encouraging.

I would definately recommend this race to others.
