Run
Comments: Not only was this my first race since my hysterectomy on August 30th, this was the first time I've run at all since my Olympic Tri in July. I've been walking swimming, doing spin class and lifting weights since mid-October, but aside from literally a couple minutes of jogging on a treadmill, no running at all. I ran with a friend who promised to stay with me the whole race, and he did. The frigid temps didn't bother me. I just wanted to finish, and I did. I took lots of walk breaks, but kept at it, and sprinted to the finish. What would you do differently?: Train. Post race
Warm down: Sadly, none. We had a pretty long walk back to the car and once I got home, I was so sore and tired, I just took a shower and went to bed for the afternoon. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was completely untrained for this event. Also, knees. They are and will always be a limiter for me on the run. Event comments: In my opinion, this is a great race. It's reasonably priced, and you can pay a dirt cheap price of only $10 if you don't want the premium. There's no packet, per se, so no plastic bag and lots of junk in it you don't need/won't read. I like that. I did this race mainly to get excited about racing again and get psyched for the 2008 race season, and I think I achieved that goal. I would recommend it. Last updated: 2007-12-14 12:00 AM

Had my usual OJ and tea, plus my usual pre-race breakfast of a bagel (w/cream cheese instead of peanut butter, since I wasn't swimming) and banana. Got the usual crummy night's sleep the night before.
None, other than a short walk from the shuttle bus to the race start.
