Swim
Comments: Two things about this swim. First of all this was the first swim I had done in over 3 weeks due to soreness in my elbow. I thought I aggrevated my arm and have been resting it. I definately felt the lack of swimming, I was getting sore arms about 3/4 way along. Secondly I had a lot of trouble getting a lane. I found swimmers on all sides of me the entire race. Usually I can get a lane and grind the swim without anyone else around me, except at the buoys. This time I had others climbing all over me and I had to slow up quite a bit to get around others ahead of me. What would you do differently?: Not let so much time go between swims. I might have also gone without a wetsuit on these short swims, seems like more effort for the distance. Transition 1
Comments: I got kicked on the swim and it moved my watch back to time rather then the stopwatch so I missed the T1 split. The transition seemed to go very smoothly, I was in and out pretty fast. What would you do differently?: Check the watch Bike
Comments: I really pushed this. I felt strong and fast for me. This ride was a nice inprovement over last year. Some of the straights were narrow so passing was tough, I got stuck behind a couple of riders for a short time. What would you do differently?: Not much, liked my ride. Transition 2
Comments: Fast T2, not sure on time here. Run
Comments: This run totally sucked. I was so winded by the first mile I had to walk a bit to get under control. Also I twisted my ankle on the soft sand and actually fell, kinda embarrasing. I was concerned with this run before the race and it showed. My first two miles were at 10 minute pace but my third mile was strong, at least that was a positive. I am pretty disappointed with this part. What would you do differently?: Need more speed work. Much of my training lately has been base distance and no speed. I have lots more work to do Post race
Warm down: Easy walk, got something to eat and drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had a nasty chest cold the week leading into the race so I had not had a swim in over 3 weeks coming into the race, no ride for 2 weeks, and no run for 16 days. My goal was to beat last year's time and I did that but it is all overshadowed by a crappy run. Event comments: Not my best race, but considering having a cold and a sore arm I guess it was not all that bad. Last updated: 2007-12-25 12:00 AM

Got to the race site pretty early. Got my transition area set up easily and had plenty of time to walk around and get ready for the race.
Easy stretch, nothing really.
