Pre-race routine:

Let me pre-face this by saying, this is a very small local race and its a lot of fun. This is the first time they have done an OLY here, so I think about 65 people total were in my race.
Woke up to some very sore legs and feet from playing soccer yesterday! Had to be there early as I didnt pre-register. Got set up in a sweet spot and chatted with Aaron and some friends from my neighborhood.
Event warmup:

They did the kids tri forst then the sprint got started in the pool. My race didnt start until after 8:30am. Just hung out and watched until it was time to line up.
Swim
  • 33m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am not a good swimmer!
What would you do differently?:

Swim more, get some coaching. My swim time is a reflection of the time I spend practising!
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Run from pool through parking lot. Went pretty smooth, took a moment to put on more sunblock.
Bike
  • 1h 08m
  • 24 miles
  • 21.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Lost my chain after about 2 miles and learned that you should not try to mess with the chain while still moving- ouch. Was able to get it back on quick, maybe lost 20 seconds. The wind really picked up, each lap (did I mention there were 6 laps?!). Played leapfrog with a girl most of the ride, she was one lap behind me but it was great to have her- and we ended up with very similar bike splits! My legs were still sore from soccer yesterday and really didnt loosen up like I had hoped.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time on the bike. My winter has been run focused.
Get a better bike!!!!
Transition 2

Comments:

Good transition.
Run
  • 42m 39s
  • 5.85 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

This was by far the best event for me today. I was able to keep a good pace from the get-go. I was trying something different today- I run quick (for me) off the bike so in races usually I try not to go out too fast, I hold back then I seem to fade and never be able to get back up to pace. Today I decided to just go for it and it was fine. I was REALLY disappointed to see that the run was short- so not a full OLY.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate donuts and bagels with my buddy while we waited for awards- he took 1st in his AG! :)

Event comments:

Great local race.

Course: This was a strange swim because it was in a pool- thankfully a 50m pool. We swam 6 lanes, got out, ran to the start again, swam 8 lanes then repeated 2 more times. Confused? I was too! It was ok and not too crowded.
