Swim
Comments: I felt great out there. I was kicked a few times and probably did my fair share of hitting people. For the most part there was room to get into a good rhytem except a few people who were doing the back stroke from previous waves. It was great not to have all the weeds that later summer brings. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Transition went well. I ran to my bike. Socks took a minute to get on but I need them otherwise blisters set in. I was able to locate my bike quickly. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: My goal was to try and beat my brother to T2. I knew he would beat me(although he began 4 minutes later). I was to mile 12 when I heard him yell for me. Just with one mile to go. I passed many people and was passed by many. I felt really strong on the hills. This is a fast pace for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: I couldn't believe that my legs did not hurt. I guess the couple of bricks I did in the last couple of weeks paid off. Other than just being tired from pushing myself, I felt strong. On the way back with about one mile to go, I looked off to the lake on my right and saw a fish jump out of the water and flop back down to the water. After the second time, I announced, "Did anyone see that fish out there?" After no one answered, I answered my own question. "It was huge. It just jumped out of the water twice." I had to chuckle to myself. There's a bit of a story that goes with it though. Here it is...While my brother (my racing pal too) and I were running a half marathon this past January in Phoenix, I was really struggling at mile 9. I guess somewhere between there and the finish line there were two hot air balloons off to the side of the course in flight. At the end of the race, my brother commented about how cool that was to see. Do you think that I saw it? Not for one second. So now it's a bit of a standing joke. I did see the fish, TWICE. Does that make up for it? What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder??? I was hoping to catch up to my brother who was maybe about .5 of a mile in front of me but couldn't. Run
Post race
Warm down: Changed clothes to feel more comfortable and then ate the pork sandwich and a cookie. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to lose the 10 pounds that I gained over the winter. Event comments: Lots of volunteers. Tried to thank a few of them along the bike route. A perfect day. Last updated: 2007-12-29 12:00 AM
