Swim
Comments: Finally, our wave was lead into the shoot and we waded onto the boat ramp. I tried to position myself in the front. Every wave at the race got a special word to motivate us. Our word was "SUPER!". We did a couple of cheers and high fives, then the countdown. I was off sprinting. The girl next to me was keeping up at a pretty good pace. I was worried that I was going to get caught in a big pack and get thrashed but I was able to pass everyone and was out in front as I rounded the first buoy. I started to catch up to the earlier waves and it was hard to pass people at times. I tried to pick the best path but sometimes I got stuck behind a pack and could not find an easy way around. I got passed by 2 girls in the end but over all I am happy about my swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I still need to work on my endurance since I am more of a sprinter. Transition 1
Comments: The trasition area was huge so most of my time was running to my spot and then running out. I had a little trouble getting the grass clippings off my feet. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Bike
Comments: I think I did well on the bike. I am still really slow but my biggest achievement was making it up Day St. without getting off and walking. A lot of women were walking their bikes up the steep hill but I toughed it out. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: My transition spot was not far from the bike finish so I was able to rack my bike quickly and run out. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: My running stinks. I need to train a lot more. My friend Ally, who was behind me passed me at around the 2 mile mark looking strong. What would you do differently?: Train more. Post race
Warm down: After I crossed the finish line, I found Ally and we walked around for a little while. I drank a Propel and ate some apples with peanut butter. The race expo was not as good as last year. We got as much free stuff as we could then found a shadey spot to strech and rest for awhile. We got our stuff and walked to the car. I felt bad for all the people who had to wait for the shuttle bus. The line was insanely long. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of skill and training in bike and run portions. Event comments: This race is a great first timer race. I probably will not do it again next year. Instead I want to volunteer as a swim angel so I will still get to participate in some way. The day before, my friend Ally and I went to pick up our race packets and get marked. We walked around for awhile and got some free stuff from the sponsers.
The morning of the race, I drove down with my friend Ally to the race site and parked on the street. I live only 1 mile away from the race so it would have been silly for me to drive all the way down to Safeco to park and ride the bus to the race site. I set up my transition area and waited for my wave to start. I was in wave 27 so I had quite a long time to wait.
A little bit of jumping around to loosen up the muscles.
