Swim
Comments: Honestly I have not kept my swim volume up like I should and so I started to loose my form and navigation somewhere around the last quarter mile. I started getting hit and grabbed a lot during the last quarter mile and was starting to wonder what the heck was wrong with everyone but then realized it was probably me swimming across other people's path. What would you do differently?: Be more disciplined about my swim training. Transition 1
Comments: T1 felt like it too WAY longer than it did. T1 and IMAZ is probably the longest transition area in the sport so it always feels long but I actually got through pretty quickly. Bike
Comments: We were expecting low winds but once out on the B-line the winds were higher than expected. I think I heard that there were gusts up to 20 mph. There was never really a consistant direction for the winds though so you were never really hurt or helped much. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing, this was an IM bike split PR for me. Transition 2
Comments: Got through T2 pretty fast as well. Again, it felt longer. Run
Comments: Well, it wasn't a good run but then again it wasn't too bad. My best IM run time is 5 hours and I have been nursing a knee injury for the last month and a half so all I have been doing is short distance trail runs and this run is probably 80% concrete sidewalks. I suspected that my run might fall apart but I was very happy that it was not because of injury it was just because my legs and feet were beat not having a lot of good distance running recently and no training on pavement much less concrete. What would you do differently?: Really nothing. I made a good effort out there and the short comming was just circumstantial. I pushed the pace any time I could and even when I was feeling whipped I would still muster the strength and energy to run at least a few yards at a time. Post race
Warm down: I ate pizza and french fries and watched a few more people finish and then went and took a shower and went to bed. What limited your ability to perform faster: A bit to little recent swim training but that was marginal. The biggest thing was the recent knee injury that prevented some good, solid IM run training in the month and a half leacing up to the race. Event comments: What can I say, this is an Ironman and they always do a good job. I will say though that I have done IM Louisville and IM CdA and did IMAZ once before and of all those I like IMAZ the least. The course is just not as interesting and for whatever reason there just doesn't seem to be as much fanfare. Last updated: 2008-01-08 12:00 AM

Ate a mostly liquid breakfast with a couple of Poptarts. I have discovered that for me it is not only bad to eat a big meal the night before an IM but it is also bad to eat too much in the way of solids on race mornings but I do need somewhere around 1000 calories.
The swim is the warm up.
