Swim
Comments: With the strong winds, I figured the swim was the one event where it would not be a factor. Started off well, although it was probably one of the more combative swim starts I've ever had. Coming back we were swimming into the wind. I would look forward to sight and was getting whipped in the face with water. I kept thinking someone was splashing me, but it was the wind kicking water up into my face. What would you do differently?: Nothing, other than become a better swimmer. Just under six minutes better than last year. Transition 1
Comments: Quick jog to the transition area, it was fun having a smaller size transition area after experiencing Columbia. Suit came off no problem, bike shoes on, ran out to the parking lot where, despite my concerns about the sharp gravel, I mounted up and made it across without incident. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I'm pretty happy with where I am in transitioning. T1 last year was 3:33. Bike
Comments: Wow was the wind strong. Coming out onto the course was one of the few times the wind was at our backs. Overall, though, I was very happy. I did this last year on a mountain bike. I was able to stay aero the entire ride, which helped a little with the wind. I know the forecast had called for 18MPH winds, and I believe it was every bit of that. Stayed in my top 3 or 4 gears the whole ride. What would you do differently?: Could have pushed a little more, but overall I'm happy. Over 15 minute improvement over last year. Transition 2
Comments: Had one small hiccup getting one of my shoes laced. Other than that, no problems. Only 15 seconds slower than last year, and then I didn't have to change shoes. What would you do differently?: Slip on my shoes like I usually do instead of tying them. Run
Comments: Felt ok for the first mile or so, but the lack of shade on this course takes a toll. Felt like I was really struggling towards the end, but overall a good run for me. Had enough left for a bit of a kick at the end. What would you do differently?: Like the swim, other than becoming a better runner there's not much else I could do. Exactly 10 minutes faster than last year. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched, and had my obligatory post-race beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind. Other than that I was thrilled with my times. Overall right around 34 minutes faster than last year. Event comments: This is a great, small race that is tons of fun. It will also always be special since it was my first, and now my first repeat race. Last updated: 2008-01-12 12:00 AM

Stayed at the local Holiday Inn. First time travelling with the baby, she was a little cranky, but overall I slept ok. Set up transition and relaxed until the start. It was strange that I was more jittery before this race than at Columbia 2 weeks ago. Maybe because this was my first repeat race (Pocomoke was my first triathlon one year ago).
Stretched, just did a few strokes in the water before our wave started.
