Pre-race routine:

Took a GU and tried to stay warm!
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 05m 48s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim started good. I passed two people in front of me in the first half. But I think I went out too fast and faded a bit on the last half. One of the people I passed started to touch my feet so I kicked up a notch and pulled her though the last 50 meters. She thanked me in the transition.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pace myself better.
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

I don't think it could have gone much faster. I did have to put on a jacket for the bike which slowed me a bit. But with a warmer race I won't have to do that.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 30m 54s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.42 mile/hr
Comments:

It took a bit to find my legs a get up to speed. The course seemed to be hillier than I remember and by the time I got a good rhythm the bike was done. I also didn't drink a lot as it was a little chilly which led to problems in the run.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my swim to bike transition to get better speed at the beginning and drink more regardless of temperature.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Couldn't get much faster without losing the jacket.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 22m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I really lost time here. I felt good till just after the turn-around. I started to get really bad side cramps. I am not sure if it was due to me not drinking on the bike or if I need to take in more electrolytes. I felt real good on the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how to run the same times that I run in training and how not to get cramps.
Post race
Event comments:

The race was great and it was good to find out what I need to work on before the Patriots Half. We left early cause I didn't think I was fast enough to place in my age group but later found out that I got second. Can't tell you how mad I am at myself for not sticking around.
