Swim
Comments: 24/40F 118/543 overall This was my first sprint lake swim (others been pool) and first wave set off with men (other than Placid). I can hold my own in the swim and don't worry too much about feet etc. I did find a few feet to draft off but I seemed to be veering back and forth a few metres - I could correct myself easily enough because there was a line there but no idea what was going on there. On the way back I swam near the line and one bloke just couldn't steer straight and kept crossing in front of me - nowhere for me to go other than stop and go to outside of him which I did and then he would come back across that way. Very annoying as we were about the same speed (obviously). What would you do differently?: On way back I made more of an effort on the pull part of my stroke and wish I had done that earlier on the outward leg. Probably wouldn't have made much difference but may have got me away from the weaving man Transition 1
Comments: 16/40 ag,47/202f,192/543oa It seemed a long way to run cos my bike was right at far end - but that made for an easy bike exit :). I always feel so winded on transition so although I jogged to my bike, I sat down and took a few seconds to put my socks on. What would you do differently?: Hmm - I am beginning to think I should practice this transition Bike
Comments: 23/202f 7/40ag,162/543oa It was the hill that got me. Kathy Hayden came flying by me on that first hill as I was spinning up it. Once that was done everytime I felt it was getting easier to pedal I'd change up a gear and keep pushing What would you do differently?: I think I need to become stronger and faster on hills. That's where I lack on GVCC rides too. An awakening to me cos I always thought I was OK on hills Transition 2
Comments: 13/40ag,82/202f,272/543oa Think I must have been taking a nap with marmadaddy. I did have to run with it the whole length of transition area but even so I felt winded and ended up walking some of it What would you do differently?: Practice transitions Run
Comments: 7/40ag,34/202f,221/543oa Apart from the start where I remember saying to myself "I hate running, why am I doing this", I actually felt OK enough to keep it going steadily (unlike last 2 races, Keuka and FLT where I just wanted to stop and die) so I wonder if I pushed hard enough on bike? The weather suited me though, much nicer to have it cooler. The girls ahead of me were too far ahead to see and at turnaround I saw there was noone immediately on my heels either which maybe would have egged me on a bit. I tried to pick it up a bit on way back and at the end I encouraged a man to have a sprint finish with me. What would you do differently?: Difficult one! Pace was OK for me but is my weakness compared with the other girls still so I think this will be a winter focus. Post race
Warm down: Was given a nice momento glass and some water and then chatted with BTers and Train this'ers whilst eating ice cream. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hmm, I'm too competitive and I don't like seeing a 9 MINUTE gap between me and the female winner(1:14:52). The good news is that one of the speedy girls was in a higher age group so age is still not a barrier. I need to think about whether I want to tackle this or get my head around doing this just for fun (fun?????) Event comments: Very nice race, well organised in beautiful surroundings. I didn't stay for post race activities but the ice cream was good Last updated: 2008-01-17 12:00 AM

Stayed with some friends in a cottage on north of Cayuga lake so only had a 45 min drive down in the morning which was nice. I didn't get much sleep and decided to get up before my watch alarm went off so got there nice and early just after parking opened
Very sporadic and prolonged. I parked in the north part so I could get out early. I cycled over with my stuff and later discovered I'd left my wetsuit in the car duh! So walked back to get that. Not too far though. I did a bit of jogging before the pre race meeting and at 8am I got in the water and swam for a few minutes a couple of times. My wave went off at 8.30am
